I just got QFR with brown switches that I ordered from the CM store. It is branded, I was hoping it wasn't but it's not too bad. I suppose I could always paint it down the road.

I actually think the QFR's blue/brown/black don't look bad with branding, it's the red's that have the ugly logo. grey/black is classy, black/white+red isn't

The keycap font is ugly, and the printing on the spacebar would be best removed.  The other branding doesn't bother me.

yeah its only the key branding that looks weird imo. the case branding is fine. i just ordered one with blacks, im just going to get some new keycaps for it.

I always liked it, too. But I have so many keycap sets, I just swap it out anyway. Even if the font is good, I'd rather have PBT.

To those having issues with left Alt, I really am not sure whats going on. I went and picked up 3 boards from RMA today that had the reported "left Alt" issue, and I all of them worked on my work laptop (Windows 7 64)

All red switch

Not sure what to say to be honest. Could be cord issues *Kinked* or somehow a controller/driver conflict

On a side note, I know I said I would check on the browns, trust me when I say I have been INSANELY busy and have not had an opportunity to check this yet. Its not as easy as making a call, the warehouse staff hates my guts for the **** I have put them through the past few weeks with this unbranded/branded fiasco.

I don't know. This is kind of a niche market, and a LOT of those were produced, so I wouldn't be buying them up for resale later.

Alright guys,

Just checked and unfortunately the limited QTY of brown switch rapids I have left are still branded. As you can imaging with recent announcements, brown switches are in major shortage right now so new stock got delayed a little for me until about middle of november for rapids.

Ya I sorta liked those too... but got rid of oem profile anyway. Sorry I only have my unused full set w/ 'WIN' ones.

Left alt thing gets stranger by the minute! maybe its a cord defect issue (like carter said) or not seating the cord all the way?

When I first put my cord into the kb it made 2 loud SNAP sounds, (one right away, and again when I was flipping the kb over after using it) I wouldn't call it a POP... quite loud and it actually kinda scared me like I broke pcb solder something. But it works great! I haven't, and have no plan to, EVER remove my chord after that but was wondering;

did others notice that?

I got a Rapid with reds yesterday and it has no branding on the top/front at all. Just some on the back. The Windows keys say "WIN" on them.

It would be cool if they were auto-win buttons for games, but alas they are not. Just the normal Windows key.  ;D Hey, one way to look at it is this keyboard comes with double doses of WIN!

At the time, branding was a crapshoot and more people than not wanted unbranded boards.

Hell, I painted and sold mine that I got during the same thing as well.

why'd you paint it and then decide to sell it? that sounds a little different than trying to turn a quick profit of roughly $40

Painted it to do it and because I wanted brandless.  Sold it because I then bought a pure, race and ducky yotd.  I agree that my reasoning for selling is different than his but is it his fault for asking what he did (we've seen worse mark ups with CCs) or the fault of the shlep that was too impatient to wait to get a guaranteed brandless board from CM direct?

Fault isn't the right word, but my wordtionary fails me.

A huge thanks to Carter, my 2 brandless cherry reds got to Canada via USPS tracked in perfect shape! Beautiful boards, o-rings going in now.
Even if they came in branded i would have still been happy with the great deal and free shipping, can't really beat that.

However it looks like one of them has the left alt key not working issue :*(
The other one works fine though.

Is there any way to fix the issue at all?

Many thanks again and for this tip-off thread!

This was asked a couple of times earlier in the thread, but I could not see any replies.

Any idea whether unbranded QFR with blacks are available in Australia?  CPL in Melbourne in particular?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Did anyone else see this thread? I get the feeling that this was picked up during Carters code sale. Pretty ridiculous.

http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=36169.0

That was my sale thread, and I just want to mention a few things:

1. yes I got it from the CM sale and profit about $20 from it, not $40. I was taxed when I bought it, it cost me a little over $10 to ship it, and took a small hit on paypal fees. Do the math.

2. I did not purchase it with intention to resell it. If I did, I would have gotten more than one. I already own 2 other quickfire in mx red and blue, need to make room for DIFFERENT keyboards. Profit was not my purpose, and if it was, I wouldn't have offered this free service (actually ended up losing money from that).

3. I sold it based on "value". The 30% off was only for a few days of promotion, it's not a normal MSRP. What's ridiculous is expecting me to sell it at or below the cost that I got it for and take the hit on shipping. At a buyer's prospective, you can get it for $90 (+shipping and/or tax) if you wait a couple months, or pay the $5-$10 premium and get it now.

4. Me selling this doesn't affect you in any way. If it's against your ethics, then just don't anything from me or anyone that sells CC for that matter.

Got my RMA back, left-alt problem appears to be fixed. Such a fantastic keyboard (brandless again) to type on and look at.

Not sure how much you're able to influence design decisions (although it sounds like you had quite a hand in getting us the less logo-ed up versions), but if cost isn't too much of an issue, it would be nice if the ink on the keycaps wasn't so prominent. I'm no keyboard expert so I'm not sure how they're printed now (pad?), but I think they might feel nicer laser etched + paint. Just a thought if it ever comes up at your brainstorming sessions :D

Thanks for the sale again Carter and all the support!

I think i will do the RMA for mine as well, i just didnt want to pay more for shipping :P
If i could fix the left alt key myself i would if anyone has suggestions that have worked for them.

As for the red keyboard in the picture that i posted earlier in this thread, i used red plastidip to paint the keyboard shell (i did not treat the original coating, so i could peel the rubber paint off at any point to get back to the factory logo finish) which worked well (if i wasnt in such a rush with waiting between coats i could have done an even better job).

Hope that helps.

I had some key caps posted from US, and they went thru a sort facility in Miami and that was it for more than a week.  No further updates (in fact that is still what it says).

Suddenly they arrived in Melbourne!

Your is 9 days ago, so maybe any day now ...

Collected mine earlier this afternoon.  It has branding.  Oh well.  Cue order for custom key caps ...

I got mine too with labeling and I really don't mind it. The only branding I hated was the space-bar logo.
I just got a space-bar from WASD keyboards for like $1.50 and it looks fine. lol

^ Same here, except the plan is to replace all the keys.
