In with :00. I will own a brobot! :). GL all.
Don't be so sure mate, If theres only 5 of the ones you've chosen and your number six in the list of people that sent a mail at exactly 4.20 that have the same choice, you still won't get any.

I think he means he got the email confirming he is in. :p
Hah, that makes sense. Sorry for the misunderstanding swill :)

Surprised I didn't get in with the time being on the dot and every brobot listed. Oh well! Life goes on. :D

Congrats to the winners and thanks Bro Caps for the opportunity!

I'm gonna assume BroCaps is still at it with sending out mails, thus why he hasn't posted anything new yet, I'm not giving up on hope yet.

Yes, until BroCaps has said anything else then there's still hope till wednesday :)

Tbh, since mine was sent at the exact millisecond I'm starting to wonder whether it mattered that i fowarded the mail from the first one i sent 20 mins too early... I'm afraid he has a filter or something since my mail title now has "forwarded" in it, hopefully it won't matter since he's not a real robot.

i sent in around the same time for both outlook and hotmail (clacks) and currently got into the clacks. I think the latency to outlook for gmail was longer

Sent out emails to those who got in. I may be adding more.

There's no guarantee as to what you will get, just letting you know that you made it in :)

I hope the "may be adding more" part turns out to be true...

Was wondering that, and then i realized the receive time for my clack email was 2 seconds before the indicated time vs. 1 second after with my brobot email.

Last I checked, pretty sure there were more people watching the clack page than there were watching the bro caps one.

The receive time on mime were exactly the same. Right on the dot. And I assume there is more demand for clacks currently.

Both my email received times for this and the CC sale ended in ":00 -0700" (16:20 and 16:00 respectively) as did many other peoples. This probably signifies something that someone much smarter than I could tell you about how email works.

I actually accounted for a bit of delay, so even though it says that they received it at :00, the huge influx of incoming emails from other customers was sure to delay the actual input into clack or bro's inbox. This turned out to right since I got in for the clack sale :P

That's the connection with the recipients MTA, that message still has to be processed through their spam filter(s) then it gets delivered to their mailbox. FWIW both of my messages to Bro and CC were sent on the :00 second and I still got no love, lol.

The email header on the recipient end will show the real connection time stamps, mx dns to spam engine then to their mta (mail server) and when the message actually landed on their mail server.

How many seconds prior would you say you sent the message, if you don't mind. Just curious.

The problem with sending a second or two earlier is that when it reach Bro or CF's inbox, they will see the time as 15.59 and 16:19 respectively and will disqualified you. It is better to click send on the dot or at the 59.5th second so that it reach them right on the dot. This is what I did and when I verified the message source, I see the message sent at 16:00:00:0016 up to millisecond/microsecond. Obviously a lot of people does the same so the messages piled up and became 1st come 1st served.

It's a guessing game.

Basically the receive time you see on 'original message' in gmail means kaput. And other factors like distance, traffic, and even the email domain/server will affect the time it takes to get to the recipient.

I don't know, you can't doubt my results when I factored in delay time :P

Edit:  What you typed out was what you saw on your screen (the time it was sent). I'm talking about including the millisecond delay for the email to actually send + travel time to the recipient.)

there's ALOT of tiny issues that affect latency over the internet.  it's even more horrendous when you add in an email server.

i've spent enough time playing browser text games that rely on ms accuracy over http to know that there are tricks, but ultimately it's a crapshoot.

obviously http is not the same thing as email. but complexity is still complexity.

There are no tricks that will guarantee that you make it in. I got into about 2 4grabs sales and both Brobot sales by hitting send just as the countdown ends. Not a second sooner, not a half second sooner. And I'm in Canada also. So I say don't bother with all kinds of fancy set ups or tricks like syncing your clocks to whatever. Click send when Bros countdown hits zero and hope for the best. And don't stress about not getting in. I have failed on enough clack sales and EK draws myself to know better than to lose too much sleep over it. Also it's important to know that sometimes when a countdown runs for an extended period of time it can lag behind just a bit. Sometimes it doesn't. So refresh the countdown at 15-20 seconds left and giv'r.

Last 4grabs I got in was last 4/20, and then only because I had the wife send the email from the states. Every single time I send a email from Norway to an American address it shows up horribly late, and there is no way I can predict how slowly or quickly the email will arrive.
I would suggest using an american VPN (only when not located in the states of course) if you're really into getting caps from these kind of sales. That's the only "trick" I can recommend.

I would rather a forum post that can be locked when everything is sold out. Only downside is some people probably don't want others to see what they got, but that is a small price to pay for all the other benefits.

With a good vpn the only slow part would be your connection to the vpn server. I have a pretty good vpn that I only have about 200-300ms latency to, which is a whole lot easier to predict than what I experience sending emails for some reason.
I have to add that this isn't scientific in any way, and your millage mileage will most likely vary.

Yeah I sent my email for the Clack sale about 4 seconds early to account for the distance between Australia and the US and I got in. Did some tests sending emails in the days leading up to the sale and the delay between SMTP auth and the email being received was anywhere from 3500 to 8000 ms. In saying that it was still luck of the draw, one out of every 5 emails would take way longer than 4 seconds so I was still very lucky overall.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

In the 30 minutes before both sales I have been sending email to Outlook and Hotmail to test it and there wasn't any delay.

In any case, looks like email is not a good mechanism for such a time sensitive international sale. Wouldn't forum PM be better?

In the early days,  they tried forum PM. It brought down the GH website entirely for a little bit. I think since then they upgraded the servers but they don't do sales anymore just in case?

But the recent Toxic BB shows that the forum software is robust enough. So maybe now's the time to revisit?

It couldn't be a 'post' because you would get tons of 'posts have been made since you started, would you like to submit anyway' messages which will throw off timing more than email latency.

Doing it via PMs would be possible, but would risk taking down the whole website as others have pointed out.

You can turn that off in the forum settings, swill.

I'm really not good with first come first served sales,
I hope there will be drawing sales like EK's  :(
