Anyone tried Carpal RX or BFST?
« on: Mon, 14 April 2014, 08:26:28 »
I was wondering if anyone on here has tried the Carpal RX or King Brand BFST to help reduce wrist pain?  In the past few weeks my wrist pain has gotten worst.  I am a software developer, so I am on the PC all day.  I think that my Galaxy Note 3 has also contributed to wrist pain since my hands are small and the phone is big, and I am always on the thing.  When I bend my right wrist I notice a slight bump protruding, which seems a bit awkward.

I purchased an IMAX SmartGlove last week and started using my Futuro Night Wrist Sleep Support.  I also installed a keyboard tray a couple of weeks ago to lower the height of the keyboard.

Anyways let me know if any of you guys have tried any of these products out.  I will probably purchase one or both and post my results on here.

This is the first I've heard of them. Do these come recommended by a doctor? I'd be nervous about the Carpal RX, mainly because I don't know enough about it. The king brand BFST looks like an advanced heating pad with whatever specialness they added in. My gut tells me that's the safer of the two.

First off, have you seen your doctor, or at least a physio?

If you use the mouse with your right hand, would you consider swapping to the left?  It's a real pain at first, but I don't notice it now.

What keyboard are you using?

You can also try to reduce the amount of typing you do.  Rest breaks make all the difference, and being a software developer, I'm sure you could employ some macro software to amplify your efforts.

You're in good company, many here are in the same boat -  keep in touch.

Thanks, that is definitely a good way of looking at it.

Yes, I saw a specialist a year and a half ago.  They took x-rays and performed physical tests on my wrist, though they didn't do the nerve test.  The doctor said that I didn't have CTS, that it was just overuse.  He they referred me to a physical therapy place.  At the physical therapy they performed more test and came to the same conclusion that I did not have CTS.  I only went a few times to the therapy and then stopped going because I felt it was not worth it.  $50 each visit to get a heat pad on my wrist and a few minutes of ultrasonic therapy on my wrists was not worth it.

As for the mouse, I switched hands over 5 years ago.  It was easy for me to adapt to, I didn't even have to switch the buttons around.  I tried a trackpad, rollermouse and trackball, and wound up sticking with the trackball.  I had a CST LaserTrak then I switched to a Slimblade, which is what I use now.

For keyboards, I have an Ergodox, Kinesis Advantage, MS 4000 ergo, I tried the newer sculpt but returned it, and am now typing on an RF 87u modded to 30g's at work and my Choc mini with mx browns at home.

I agree with you on the typing less part.  I have to stop myself from always going online when at home.  I am always surfing on my Note 3 and iPad which add to the wrist strain. At work, I am trying to get better at taking a break every hour.

Thanks for your replies and support, really appreciate it.

P.S.  Will I be able to get back into gaming?  I was planning on getting a PS4 since I can't game on the PC, would that be a bad idea?

PC gaming really hurts my hands, but console gaming does practically nothing to them.  I end up stopping because my eyes are tired before my hands and wrists give me a problem.

That is good to hear.  I would hate to give up gaming for good.  I will miss gaming with kb/m though.

A good amount of PC games support using a console controller. If you use steam, it will tell you if a game support it on the game's info page.

Yeah, there is this.  You still don't get the accuracy with FPS, though.  But if your hands hurt that bad, you probably wouldn't anyways.
