Waiting for geekhack.org ...
« on: Fri, 24 January 2014, 03:26:59 »
Sometimes I get the message "Waiting for geekhack.org ..." in the status bar at the bottom of my browser and a blank page, that lasts for anything up to about 5 minutes.  THis happens when I post a reply, click to mark all threads read, click the home page link - anything basically.

At first I thought it was my crappy internet connection dropping out again, but it happened a few minutes ago and I was able to browse dozens of other sites, do a download, and watch YouTube videos, all while GH was not responding.

Invariably all GH pages eventually open, and usually all at the same time.

It's like GH accepts any posts I send it, then completely refuses to send anything back to me for a few minutes.  Then suddenly comes good again.

Like it happened a few minutes ago (if anyone wants to get a timestamp from this post).

Screen like this one (except the status bar at the bottom of the window did not appear in the screen capture):

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I believe I've also had the site stall for a bit, refusing to load while I am able to browse other sites in different tabs. It usually fixes itself within a minute or two though.

Yeah my multiple GH tabs freeze up all the time, every other site works just fine however.

It just disappeared again then, for about 4 minutes.

I tried to traceroute to it during the outage and afterwards, but all attempts stopped at hop 14:

So that is probably not much help.
