Looks like I'm getting my first new mechanical keyboard, just in time for the holiday season! (My first was a Chicony 5181 that was rescued from a school computer lab garbage pile. Unfortunately, it was badly damaged in an act of carelessness my me...)

If this were Cherry brown, I might have snagged one.  $56 is not a bad price at all, even if the legends are ugly as sin.

I recommend we at LEAST raise the barrier to entry.

Typing "USB" is pretty easy (especially when I give the hint away in the "Beginners Wiki").

How about "Please outline the Ducky Product Code Naming Scheme"?
I know, I know, making my first post about this keyboard makes me the first of the unwashed masses that will flood into GeekHack because of this sale. (Also, I'm a horribly careless person and should be tarred and feathered for my transgressions against keyboardkind, specifically the maiming of an innocent Chicony.)

Still, this is quite the deal. It's hard to find something with MX Blue for much less than this, and while not a "top shelp" keyboard, it's still a fine gateway into the land of empty wallets and spirited discussion of switches. (In my defense, I had my finger on the trigger for a tenkeyless Filco with MX Browns, shortly before EK's stock ran out.)

Like I posted when the Razer first appeared - Deck and Xarmor are about at Dead as Moogle's Ducky.  Distribution and discounting.

Yeah, ouch. I think they could survive the $70 BW, but not a $56 one.

I seem to remember reading that the macros are stored internally, and you only need the driver to program them.

I could be confusing the BW with something else, though.
HHKB Pro 2 -- Custom UNIX layout Unicomp Customizer 101 -- IBM Model M 1391401 (modded to UNIX layout) -- IBM 1397000 (also UNIX layout) -- SSK in UNIX layout -- Model F 122 key in UNIX layout (Soarer USB "native")

CST L-TracX trackball -- Kensington Expert Mouse trackball

As mentioned in my review the macros/programming require the driver to be installed. Profiles are not saved in memory either, they are stored in windows registry. The macros are at least real hardware scancodes, which makes them superior to AHK or similar solutions if you play games that block virtual keystrokes.

I got my BW non-ultimate yesterday, first board with Cherry blues after recently getting a Ducky 9008 with cherry browns.

I've got to say, the click noise from the blues really does drive me up the wall - mainly that I can't type quietly at all, whereas at least with the browns you can slow down and baby the keys at night...

Having said that the board itself is reasonably OK - Doesn't seem to be finished as well as my Ducky, nor is it as solid, and the cable isn't nearly as good as some other braided cables are, but on the whole it's not bad.

For $55USD it's a steal.

Oops! I thought this KB would stay at $70 for at least a while, now it goes to $56. It seems to be non-beatable for a cherry blue in this price now! To my best knowledge, the next cheapest cherry blue might be adesso MKB-125B or some ione KB's.

Though I'd rather something less bling myself that is a pretty unbeatable price.

Wrong kinda diode -  signal versus Bling Emitting diode.

Hahaha, 2nd time so far I've caught you learning from my posts.

If they extend the code to Newegg.ca I might give it a chance, but I'm pretty opposed to their design choices.  Rosewill is still a better deal, but the discounted BW price of admission is attractive.

Despite being a really tempting price, I'll have to pass this time.

I'm waiting for that Switch Try Numpad to show up at my doorstep so I can find out if I really do like Cherry MX Blues...and if I do, I'm going for that DSI Modular Mac board plus a matching numpad with those switches, even if it's twice as much. At least I won't have to tear it apart and solder in a ton of diodes. (Of course, the real reason for me to go that route is that I want to try having my numpad on the LEFT side for once.)

That is how I justified it. That, and I am listing my 6Gv2 here soon which should more than pay for the Razer.

I can just see those macro keys being so nice for working in Photoshop and a few other applications.

What do you do at work? I'd think the more typical arrangement of keys on a normal layout would work better for photoshop and such. Though I might be a bit unusual in this regard from years of typing with only my left hand while gaming...

It seems that FBXMAS10 has been already dead.

By the way, I tried to combine both coupon codes to one item when FBXMAS10 was valid, and it seems to be invalid to do this, so RAZER1213 should be enough if you want a razer product.

the code makes the naga $56. there goes my afternoon, time to start reading reviews.

If you do anything that benefits from a lot of extra mappings being available, get one. If you can get used to using them, they're amazing. I really prefer the old MS Intellimouse (rip V1 and multiple V3s) shape to the Naga's, but it's also not as bad as most of Razer's mice (it's not that awful--to me--"adder" shape). I personally don't usually use more than 2 and maybe 3 rows (going... vertically) of the side number keys, and that's still so nice to have. The side mouse buttons are a little awkward, but I don't really have trouble hitting them personally. Mine's been used for easily 1000+ hours of gaming, with the side keys used in the main "rotation" for playing WoW (so basically 1 press per second while playing), and I've had 0 issues... the black coating on the side keys is fading on the 7-9 and 10-12 row along the edges of the keys nearest me (so there are some lines of light leaking through), that's it.

Be aware that the default "num pad" mode is *actually* a numpad (even affected by numlock), so all of the usual concerns of modifier keys along with num pad keys apply ("Why doesn't shift+5 do anything!?" etc). The software now allows full remapping (and even macros) of the side keys, though. And 1-2-3 mod works fine of course.

There, there's a mini review, if the negatives don't bother you and you were at all thinking of buying one, go buy it =P

I slipped in on this deal. I was interested in a black or brown switch Filco and then the das keyboard since I didn't want to deal with a not-perfect Filco and shipping costs.

USB 2.0 ports is nice with the Das but I figured a $56 deal with the Razer would be a good way to see what these cherry mx switches feel like. And the blue seems to be the most raved about switch as far as overall clicky feeling and typing.

Even though I will game, I don't believe it'll be a problem.

New review at newegg points out how it's not full nkro and how the key placement is not standard but the F keys are moved to the right, there is no dip on the caps lock, etc.

So this is not a perfect board for gaming and since the price is 70 msrp i feel like it'll get lower than 56 soon anyway.

Das might still be the overall better buy if you've already tried blue switches.
