Are you positive it's $3 to US? That sounds too good to be true. It costs a couple dollars just to send within the US other than flat letters. I assume the final delivery would be done via USPS, so it just sounds a tad off. But if it works, more power to you... +10. Given the large response to this buy, the quality of the Starcraft race keys, and the fact that SP already has the molds, I'm sure there would be a lot of interest in a dedicated buy. I'm willing to consider running it if someone more experienced doesn't step forward.

It's it's like my RGB group buy, it goes crazy the first few days, then slow, then crazy right before the deadline. So setting one a week out or so wouldn't be a bad idea. Edit: In other news, writing stuff on packages by hand is scary stuff. At this point I feel like the biggest threat to this group buy is my handwriting. When I actually do post the picture, keep in mind that it is a test mold. If it looks like ass I will adjust the svg a little bit to make it work. We are very close to their minimum requirements (line width) in some areas and for some details we actually fall a little bit short so that's why I want to do a trial run.
For any future group buy I feel like it might be easier to just buy 200 keys or so and then sell them rather than collect payments first and so on. Takes so much time. Got some random ideas of keys that I'd like to do if this all works out.
In other news, I've prepared packaging for almost everyone, ~5 to go. Hopefullly I'll be able to mail everything within 24 hours of getting the key caps.

Well it's the eye, nose and mouth that simply do not work. I don't think they can ever be made to work unless SP suddenly gets new equipment. Can't get into my mail atm to retrieve the picture, will get it up in a sec. Looks like crap though.

I think if you made some adjustments to the original image to compensate for the cutter it would look much better, to the point where it would look good enough to keep the eyes and mouth. The mouthless eyeless one looks decent I suppose, but I would prefer a modified original one... I'm in either way, don't worry about refunding my money.I'll see what they'll come up with when they modify their CNC settings.
In other news, got the design without eye/mouth/nose OK'ed by Teamliquid. So I feel like that's a good alternative.

Eeh, I'm fine with it. I still think you could have easily made at least the eyes and nostril work by shrinking the size of the holes in the SVG. We made several adjustments for those sort of issues in the Portal GB... and then we ended up doing dye subs anyways so meh.Problem with dye sub is that they cant do the color combination we want. For pad printing they could not find any matching color (they have very limited ink colors). I'm not sure adjusting the size of the eyes and nose would have made any difference. They were already smaller than the minimum requirements.
I kinda want one of the 3 I ordered to be the old style just for kicks. I wonder if Melissa would be okay with that lol.

Keys have been delivered to my contact in the US who will forward them to me here in Sweden. Haven't gotten any pictures of them but he says they came out looking good. Since they need to be shipped to the best country in the world, Sweden, it will take a couple of weeks more. Hoping to get all the orders out within two days of delivery to me.

Good news: Finished packaging of all the keys, should be be able to get them out early next week.
Bad news: There are 25 missing keys. I'm not really sure what happened but I emailed SP about it. Luckily the amount we got is the exact number needed to fill every single order except one - mine :( I wont have a single key left after this (not even for my own keyboard) which means there will be no extras to sell. If I screwed up any order (like sending 2 instead of 3 keys) I cant do anything about it. I double-checked every single package though so there shouldn't be any packages with too few keys in them.
I'll put my detective hat on and find out what happened to the extra keys this coming week. Either SP delivered too few keys or my contact in the US took out too many keys.

Do you mean TeamLiquid? That's not a bad idea... Someone should pitch them the idea of getting a cut. Wouldn't be a ton of money, but they could control it and handle transactions through TL.net rather than here on GH, which I think were among their primary concerns.

Hey there, the guys over at Geekhack.org have been looking to try and contact someone about the teamliquid.net keycaps to see if maybe you guys would re support the making of the caps and teamliquid share profits, everyone likes these wonderful key caps and it would be sick seeing them on keyboards of pro's or even just for the average joe... who would i talk to, to make it happen if at all possible?
We'll be ordering keycaps ourselves and selling them in our store starting in early February 2012. The keycap production place currently doesn't have the correct color plastics in but they will in January.

The problem with TL is that they only allowed one round. It was actually pretty cool of them to do so, given the difficulties we've had getting other entities even to respond to requests (i.e., none have). Last we heard in this thread, TL was just waiting on the particular color of plastic to come in before producing a round of keys to be sold by them on TL.net. This was ... maybe a month ago?
What colour were they waiting on? Sounds exciting!

Because the list of buyers showed one guy buying 50, and he wasn't from here, and can almost certainly be assumed as one of the TL admins. On top of that, they sold out within hours.That makes my chances of selling it for 30 USD+ better now :wof:
TL wouldn't have put the keycap in their store if they didn't intend to restock on them and sell hundreds or thousands more.More like they were testing the waters. They will likely make more, but who knows. They stock out of a lot of stuff it seems.
The first 50 were probably for TLHQ and the players to test it out. They probably did their own order later for their website.
