Has anyone tried acetone vapor smoothing of the prints yet?  I wonder if that might help with some of the issues.

I did the feet a bit wider than necessary so they should work on all materials. It they hit the side of the housing you can simply sand them a little. It is important the they fit very well otherwise the switch wobbles. Anyway as soon as I get all your reports I'll try to make a new batch (hopefully cheaper)

Fits perfectly!! Frosted ultra-detail. Only thing is that it's based off the standard stem, rather than Type-S (with slightly deeper barrel) - but of course that's no biggie!

Just received my MX compatible Topre slider!

I'm really impressed with the handling time :D I placed my order on the 31st of March, I received the key today on the 4th of April, IN EUROPE.  [I just check their website, it turns out they have an office here in the netherlands!]

Will do!

I'll most likely take apart the keyboard tomorrow. I'm just scared of breaking the tabs on the front of the case :( Any tips to prevent this from happening? :D

The HHKB is easy to open. Just unscrew the 3 (obviously placed) screws at the back. Then it simply separates. In order to access the switch internals you will have to unscrew some more stuff to get behind board.

Just be aware that the controller has a ribbon cable that will need to be disconnected.

To add to what Smasher816 said; if you're worried about the clips just remember to separate the two parts by opening the case like a book. Don't try to pull it apart.

Yeah, exactly. I was really worried about it breaking the first time I opened it, but it just opened right up like a book and there was never any chance of the tabs breaking. I don't know what people have been doing that's been breaking tabs

I sanded one white slider, and installed the violet one too for testing purposes. Seems to be working well enough for being 3D printed :) .

Yes, Matt3o. That was the White Detail one. The strong & flexible seems fine and hasn't broken in my little stress test (pulled and replaced the cap ten times).

Alright, time for some fun!

First off, some side by side pics:

Opening the case without breaking the tabs really was as easy as opening a book. Thanks for the tips!

Removing screws of the PCB was also easy. I chose to keep the controller connected. The only annoying one was the screw below the controller connector cables.

Popping out the slider was a bit tricky at first. I thought I was supposed to pressure on the top of the slider. After a while I figured out just to press down on the bottom of the slider and it literally popped out and flew 2 meters away :D

Result:

Now I'm waiting for my MX VERY VERY skyblue keythulu! :)

Thanks again for the design Matt3o! I'm really impressed. The key press is not as smooth as the original slider at the moment so I will choose to not do my whole keyboard. However, it is great to show off novelties imo  :thumb:

what do you mean that is not as smooth as the original? Have you tried to sand the side of the feet a little?

Yeah I did sand the sides of the feet so it would go in properly, but for some reason the keypress feels a bit less tactile and a bit more mushy. Now that I think of it, maybe I didn't line up the dome correctly during assembly?

I'll probably hack it open soon again as I ordered some more sliders ^^

Right, so I took it apart again as I was too curious.

It turned out that indeed the dome was not lined up correctly with the key. It must have slipped during assembly. I applied a minuscule amount of weak glue with a q-tip to the dome and now it is in place perfectly.

Now I'm even more excited about this slider haha :D

EDIT: Ordered some more :)

great to hear! :)

I think the correct technique is to simply put the domes inside the housings and then cover with the PCB

n00b question.. which keycap sets are you using that match the HHKB profile for its Fn and arrow keys? Or I guess all the keys.

The reddit key above is a cherry profile R4. It is a tiny bit lower than the rest, but you can barely notice it. OEM R4 doesn't really work as it is much higher.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think any standard profile keys will look good on the FN spot.

Unfortunately I did not make a video and could also not find one. However, it is much easier than expected. Remove 3 screws on the back and you can open the board like a book. After that, just remove the ~15 screws on the PCB and you can replace the sliders.

It's basically just removing screws. It's really, really easy, the only thing I would add is remember to remove the keycaps ahead of time if you're taking out the sliders, and be careful with the domes on the PCB if you're not confident with putting them back in place if they come off.

Ok. Newb question.

Will MX compatible caps work with a hhkb with these stems? What I mean is, will the bigger keys (spacebar, shift, enter, etc) line up correctly where the support stems are?

So has anyone tried out white strong and flexible?

If these are strong enough, a full hhkb would be about 150 USD. (WORTH)

I dont think that's worth, If I had that much to spend just for these sliders I would just wait until novatouch and take sliders from that. At least you get anther board out of it. Anyway let us know how that white strong and flxeible is when you get it.

Right so today I received at least one of each material.

The ultra frosted detail feels by far stronger and more polished than the others. It actually feels like plastic.

The red, purple and pink all feel really brittle and dry. The also have the lined textured as you might expect from a 3D printed design.

The white strong and flexible feels like a mix of the above.

I'll install them soon.

Does the ultra frosted look like something that would make a cool clear keycap material? Thanks for experementing for us! I might pick a few up for some keys I never use if they work decently.
