I'll take one! :D

EDIT: Actually, how close is the color of the case when compared to the aluminium Mac color? If it's the same color, I'll take 2 instead of 1 :)

Hmm $120 shipped... not bad. Does this have the same exact dimensions has the stock plastic case? Does it include the M2 screws also?

Looks like I'm gonna cave and get one of these before I can finish up my GH60 case design.

It's actually pretty close (My gf has one and a MBP). I kinda wanted a gunmetal gray case to match my Samsung Series 7 Chronos, so I'll probably get this one anodized.

Hi, Glod! I did get 4 Poker PCBs from iMav. They need to go inside something, right? ;D

Edit: May have to dremel that center standoff out of there. It's right under an SMD diode on the poker PCB...

You can relocate the diode if you want to go that route. See the wiki article here: http://wiki.geekhack.org/index.php?title=Modifications:KBC_Poker_X:Pure_Center_Support_Modification

I figured you would buy 10-20 lol.
According to Mashby, newer Pokers come with a case that has a center standoff, so maybe we'll be okay without any dremeling Link to photo (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mashby/8496782910/in/photostream)

You can relocate the diode if you want to go that route. See the wiki article here: http://wiki.geekhack.org/index.php?title=Modifications:KBC_Poker_X:Pure_Center_Support_Modification

That looks scary :(

Edit - Relocate? I understand how to remove it, but where would you move it to? I'm such a KB neophyte lol

After more careful reading, it appears that the diode won't prohibit mounting the Poker PCB in the Pure case. The wiki shows how to use the standoff to mount the Poker PCB more securely. My mistake, sorry.

Thanks for positing this! I think I'll file the standoff down a little instead :)

I just did a test fit of one of my Poker PCBs in my Pure's plastic case that has the center standoff. The D51 diode may be sitting on the standoff, I can't tell for sure. But since there is nothing torquing the PCB down to the standoff in the center of the case, and because the PCB naturally has a bit of flex in the center, I don't think it's a problem, even if the diode is sitting on the standoff.

They aren't perfect, but I still think they are nice cases. I like that there is bracing all along the bottom of the case, so if you don't have a plate, it'll still feel solid.

The center standoff is fine. The diode 51 sits ever so slightly higher than that standoff. There is a very small chance the solder joint might touch the standoff, depending on how much solder. To be safe, just put a piece of tape on that diode.

tinlong, these aluminum cases you sold are high end cases at $100 per unit. These are in demand due to the quality of the materials used. But DIY'ers need cases, and not everyone can afford an extra $100 to house their keyboard. Just think how many you would sell if these were the inexpensive plastic versions. At a price of somewhere around $12-15 each, plus $5-7 for shipping, I think hundreds would potentially be sold. Some people want extra cases to paint, modify, etc. :)

I don't have my Poker here (own both), but I would think it's shorter. Externally, the Pure CNC case is ~1cm high up front and ~2cm high in the back with a 45 degree upward bend in the middle of that measurement.

The Pure aluminum case has a much lower profile than the stock KBC Poker case, but the keyboard appears to be at the same height and angle. Below are a couple of photos comparing the two.

few things
1. i had to take off my wasd mod because the wires were too thick and the poker wouldnt fit in the case. it really wasnt too successful though, the LED seem to go dimmer and didnt serve any use
2. it was a very tight fit
3. youll notice on the picture where the usb plug is that the board is just slightly (looks like half a mm) bumped up compared to the other picture of the backspace

overall i like it

2. Not a bad thing
3. Again, probably need to dremel the case :)

You would be better off using small trace wires and cover them with silicone (or even tape) directly to the pcb. They wouldn't take hardly any extra space.

Seeing if I can find a photo to share of that....

Aye, fits the tightest clearance keycaps without worry. Some round LED's require trimming due to lack of clearance from the key cap hitting them.

Got mine, looks nice at initial glance.... BUT... closer inspection is no bueno. Given Vortex's track records, I already expected this so I'm not too flustered. Machining marks are not even. Some inner edges are chipped. Outer surface is not totally flat. There are localized bumps and dents. Some local edges are not straight. Fillet corners are terrible.

Do note that I'm generally more nitpicky than most people. But regardless, thanks tinlong for a super speedy GB and shipping!

Pros:
- price
- metal, CNC

Cons:
- Vortex
- mediocre quality

The Beast's plate is thicker.

Oh no!

Vortex plate is 0.060", Beast's plate is standard 16 gauge, so 0.0625". The difference is negligible when looking at it, but this actually matters for Costar stabilizers. For switch mounting or anything else, this difference doesn't matter.

Thanks for this.

I forgot to add that chamfers on there are a joke. However, the whole case was sand/bead blasted, then clear anodized. There's no conductivity except for the inner screw holes.

odd mine looks different around the usb port, what i mean is on the outside mine looks more symetrical than WFDs

mine was a little ugly on the inside i didn't take any close ups on the inside of the case but it looked very rough.

i have a different kind of imperfection though, these little dots, as if its been poked with something sharp or bubbles maybe and then some scratches like it was dropped

again, i really need to invest in a better camera for low light......

here are the dots, they should be clearly visible in this picture if you view it larger, they are all over the case, and there was an odd droplet stain also pictured
(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8525/8549670673_9bc15b395d.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/panicfx/8549670673/)

here is where it looks like it was dropped at some point
(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8392/8550770750_4cf9873e3e.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/panicfx/8550770750/)

i mean i'm happy with it, but this is my first customized board with a aluminum case and all. if i had the experience with KMACs and other stuff like WFD i bet you money i would be more unhappy with this case.

also forgot to say

THANK YOU Tinlong! none of these problems are your fault and you charged what i think is a fair price for these.

@Glod - at least the edges on yours looks relatively cleaner and sharp, and the corners are more rounded, unlike mine. Although mine doesn't have those bubbles. This is not good quality control by Vortex. No surprise there.

@hoshidishi - Packaging wasn't the best, it was just wrapped one thin layer of foam paper, and shipped inside bubble packaging. But this allowed it to also be shoved in my mailbox.

Just got mine today.  It looks great to me, and although I've got nothing to compare it to faults-wise, I can at least say it doesn't have the issues Glod identified.
I'm very happy with it, thanks tinlong.

I got my 2 cases in today. Minor imperfections, but I'm satisfied with them. Seems typical of Vortex cases that they are lacking somewhat in the QC.

Thanks, tinlong!

What size screws do I need for the standoffs?

Edit: forgot about context search.
Found my answer
Poker screws are M2 x 4mm. I found that out by trial and error after ordering some #2-56 x 5/32 screws.

Yep, it has arrived already.  The only let down is the opening at the bottom for the 'tiny toggles' to switch, is slightly rough but it's not in anyone's sight if you don't use it.

Otherwise it's a nicely finished case quite suitable for a Pure setup.  Happy with the purchase of it because you can never get enough of Aluminum in your life.  ;D

did anybody who is using a poker with this pure case also have a tight fit? for me the left side of the board was really tight, like so tight i'm afraid to try to remove it from the case now. and the right is normal. and i am talking about the pcb and not my plate, the plate fits fine. i am suspecting usb port but if nobody else has this problem.....im very curious.

Similar experience had here.  Once I got the usb port to slip into it's cutout things were fine, though.  It's a good look, silver stainless plate and brushed aluminum case.  Too bad I don't have good caps to go with it yet.

Post a photo! I want to see it with the SS plate. I still have to make room for the WASD wires before I can put mine in.

Edit - I saw the photo in the other thread via Tapatalk, but I didn't realize it was in the CNC case.

Nice, looks like the plate's edges just sit perfectly on the sides of the case, is that right?

Considering vortex... " not terrible" not terrible at all..

You guys shoulda seen the V1 bottom plate to the filco case I got.. V2 was much better, but V1, OMG..... terrors.... it was just completely "not straight"

I felt like they made it, and then it somehow softened and melted a little...

Also, Glod, How come your edges look straighter, while wfd's has more ridges.. is it just the picture resolution?

i think its just that inconsistant, mine seems more symetrical but has little dots all over, like bubbles, maybe from the blasting not sure really. still happy with it, with plate keyboard is so damn solid to type on its insane.

I was fairly impressed by mine - not the best that's been posted here but not the worst either... The worst deficiency with mine is a small dent in the back - in terms of what you actually see in day-to-day use it looks perfect :D

Post by: cgbuen on Sat, 16 March 2013, 13:25:54
Mine actually came in quite good condition, I think.. I was particularly concerned about the connector opening, but I don't think I see any rough edges or anything. Looks like the issue from Vortex is just subpar consistency across the different cases.

(http://assets.christopherbuenaventura.com/img/keyboards/pure-case-1.jpg) (http://assets.christopherbuenaventura.com/img/keyboards/pure-case-2.jpg) (http://assets.christopherbuenaventura.com/img/keyboards/pure-case-3.jpg)

But I don't actually have a Poker to test how well it works (I was thinking about using it for a future GH60), so even if the edges look nice, I can't say for sure whether or not the opening is actually in the right spot.

Thank You! I would have found it a little odd if the case made that much of a difference with a plate, but your post cleared things up :)

Modded Poker pcb for Pure center mount, laid out foam for sound deadening, installed plated pcb in case, and promptly snapped a screw. Will attempt removal of 2mm machine screw stub tomorrow. Bollocks.

I had to cut mine short to fit, probably 3mm or so long.
