Leopold 660 or 700?
« on: Wed, 23 April 2014, 19:35:21 »
I love both the 60% board and the 87 but not sure which one to get. I got around $150 to spend and really want to purchase a board from the company that made me fall in love with mechanical keyboards. Which board would you guys choose? Why do you like either of these boards if you own them.

I currently have a Poker II and a QFR.

I'm personally a big advocate for the 87 form factor. I think that it has everything you need, and no frills. Just how I like it.

I'd personally go after the smaller layout but that's because I find TKL to also be a little on the big side. 660 already has arrow keys, and some navigational keys - other keys that TKL has that 660 doesn't have I really don't use.

Also, I personally would only get a 660c because of nonstandard keycap lengths on the bottom left of the 660m series (so in regard to strictly Cherry MX switches, I would probably go with the 700.)

I prefer TKL. I had a 660 and even though I don't use the function keys for gaming or anything, I still prefer having it on a board. TKL is the perfect size imo.

I'd go with the 660C. It has the functionality of a TKL in the size of a 60%.

I have both and it's a tough call. For work I prefer the FC660M as I hardly ever use the F-keys and might even prefer the fn + arrow for the home cluster. And it is a very well built keyboard.
At home however I prefer the TKL. Slightly better access to all keys, especially since at home ai use the various shortcuts a lot more. Things like windows + M or Alt + F4.
And one of the big upsides of TKL designs is their compatibility with custom keysets. :)

I'm using a 660m right now, and I like its ~60% form factor with the addition of dedicated arrow keys.. but if you're thinking about getting replacement keycaps for your board, it might be better to go with the TKL. it'll make your life a bit easier haha. also, depends on how often you use the F-keys;; I hardly use them so it's not really an issue for me. good luck  :thumb:

Thanks everyone I decided to go with the Leopold 700. I like to have the function keys and will most likely upgrade the keycaps (huge reason I went this route). I will post pictures once the board comes in.
