[IC] - Firefly/Serenity fans...(Final Mock-ups + Revised Spacebars)

Okay, moving along on this project, definitely will be doing them in PBT Dye-Subs. So as you might expect all of them will be changing colors. Doubleshooting will not be an option as most of the silhouettes would end up looking like blobs of nothingness. Stay tuned for new updated mockups as I go along.

I'm not a big fan. I have only seen Serenity, and a few clips from the series.
But I named an ergonomic keyboard of mine Rivertron, because there is already a keyboard named Maltron.
(... and also because it is less weird to say than Jaynetron, Washtron, Inaratron, Zoêtron etc..)

Of all the keycaps listed in the mock up I posted does anyone have any feedback concerning the 3 shepherd keycaps, the operative, or jubal early's gun? I am also thinking of doing a Wash leaf keycap in addition to the two dinosaurs. New mockups of keycaps in PBT colors will be coming soon...I am having to go solo on this project it appears...

As I am planning this GB, and as it stands right now it will feature:

14 - 1x1 PBT Character Silhouettes (Row 1, Number row)
1   - 1x2 PBT Firefly/Serenity Silhouettes (Row 1, Backspace)
1   - 4.6  PBT Front side pad printed Spacebar "You can't take the sky from me."

Also, I am seriously considering making another option available for those who want the black on black PBT Dyesub look to all the above keycaps. I am even considering Black on Brown letter rows with black on black modifiers. I was not going to do a full keyboard theme, but this just seems to be falling together and may look awesome...

Jayne's hat or Wash's dinosaur is sweet, not sure about Kaylee too : The strawberry should be nice but the umbrella has a great drawing.
I don't really like Simon's glasses, too anecdotal, same for Zoe's.

I would make 2 keycaps with that (text and ship). the firefly is very recognizable alone.

I own this game and can take some decent photos of any/all desired images.  Not sure if that would get into the realm of shady copyright things though.

I need help with the keyboard layout, I am not any good at this, but the color schemes I am considering are below:

The number row Firefly keycaps should work well with the themes, I think. Whether you have the Full Color or you have the Into the Black ones.

I am getting no help with them, so themes are now cancelled...

I am also planning two variant spacebars with front side printed phrases. One to accompany the Full Color set and one to be Into the Black. So as you look at the Layouts, please keep this in mind.

I am looking to try to make one. It may be a spacebar...I have a question emailed into to SP, and soon hopefully they can tell me the size of the field for Dye-Subbing Pad Printing a spacebar. I may just split it up into a series of 3-4 keycaps, dunno yet.

The umbrella is supposely green yellow and red in the show so one of them with a preference for a bright yellow since it's not a colour you ever used for other icons.

I'm not interested in space bars even she's nice but splitting an humble GB like this one is generally not a great idea.

nm, I changed it to an all reddish/pink silhouette. You will find it in the mock ups at the starting post of this thread...Kaylee is better in red anyways...thanks for the tip!

Well, I tried her strawberry but many preferred the umbrella...

I made Book's into an open book, but I prefer his shirt collar, the book silhouette was not that great IMHO.

Sunglasses for Simon is necessary because he is trying to shield himself and his sister from scrutiny. Let's say I make a keycap that features a syringe or scalpel, someone else would want them to the glasses...I cannot please everyone.

Zoe's conveys who she is, she is a diehard rocksolid wife who can put a man down where he stands, but defends what's hers. Keep in mind that most of these silhouettes and the inspiration came from graphic designer Mitchell Johnson. He created these, and has now given me permission to use them in this way. I know a lot of people, myself included, flip our spacebars. For that reason, you may want to enquire if SP can do the side printing on the flipped side as well. TechKeys did that with their PBT Spacebar and I bought both of them.

Might not be possible, or might not be worth it, but figured I'd ask.

Technically, the 'Black on Black' will be Dark Dark Grey, because SP said that when they do Black Dye-Sub on Black PBT it does not show up at all.

The bottom edge on SP's DCS spacebar is rather "sharp" in many people's opinion. Flipping the spacebar makes it look odd, but it feels much better. In my estimation, it angles the face of the key to match the angle of your thumb.

How many people like enough to buy a custom novelty spacebar? I suppose we'll find out.  )

If I end up buying the set (which I suppose depends on how it looks in the end), I would buy both versions of the spacebar if you also made a flipped one.   

The plan is to do 4 tiers: Firefly crew colors, Into the black crew, pair of spacebars normal way, and a pair of inverted spacbars. Still waiting to see if I will have to edit the text on the spacebars. They may be too long. Plus, I am not happy with YAF as main color so looking into white and grey options for the normal color set...

I went through this same conversation in Ivan's Black-on-Black PBT buy. That level of grey tends to be referred to as process black -- it's black, but there are deeper blacks that will show up dyesub.

I agree that it makes sense but isn't it irrelevant since this is a DSA set or like the ISO enter key there is no mold for DSA family in PBT ?
