Title: quickfire pro brown switch....made by iOne or costar?
Post by: BBallTime on Sat, 08 September 2012, 22:47:02
Hey guys......Is the quickfire pro made by ione or costar?

A CM representative posted here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1292538/thoughts-on-the-cm-quickfire-pro-quality/20

that the pro is made by iOne but how come some people have pictures of the long keys have costar stabilizers when the cap is removed?

how bad and what is the main difference between iOne and costar because I might buy the quickfire pro since its on sale...

Are things made by iOne really that bad?

From what I've seen I think iOne uses Costar stabilizers also.  At least I know in Blackwidow and Max Keyboards they seems to use Costar stabilizers.  As for how bad iOne is, I don't think they're bad but they're a bit hit or miss.  So it's kinda like if you're willing to gamble.  But for the price point I think QuickFire Pro is not bad.  It's one of the cheapest full size mx brown board around.

If you want to play safe I'd dish out a bit more and get a Das Professional S Silent (Not Media Edition cuz they switched vendor) or Filco MX Brown.

I've had 5 bad iOne made keyboards.  :'(

2x DEFECTIVE Black Widow regulars, sticky space bar and S key, VERY Un-smooth actuation of top row of keys, the keycaps were cut poorly such that the plastic spurs rubbed against the outer casing and other keys in between.

1x DEFECTIVE Black Widow Ultimate, Just **** all around, same problem as above, AND 1 of the LED under my "K" key went out after only 1 week of use.

Now the 4th board, i'm not sure is made by iOne, but I had the K60, and then the K90, basically both these boards had a severe problem with keys sticking, NOT literally like on the black widows, but when you let go of a key, the keyboard still think the key is depressed.

This is a major documented issue that Corsair tried to bury on their forum, and taking every roundabout to the issue.

Looking at the key spacing of the bottom row, the K60, K90 may have been made by iONE, which is why their so ****ty and completely un-usuable.

So I called up corsair, and they replaced my k60 with a K90, but guess what, SAME freaking problem with key sticking.

Long story short, anything iONE can diaf

Costar style stabilizers != Costar made board, the blackwidow's for instance are made in a way that makes them slightly cheaper but still the same mechanism.

Quick fire rapid and trigger made by costar but the trigger has to use cherry stabilizers for the back lighting.

A lot of build issues seem to pop up with iOne boards, if you don't get affected by it that's great but seems to happen a fair bit. Some of the other less known boards by other factories seem to fair better but well let's face it more people have bought razer blackwidows than Filcos so there are fewer people to complain about costar. That said there haven't been any real problems with the quickfire rapid but there was an issue with rosewill(also costar for their mech boards) connectors. The one issue that a filco may suffer from in time is key chatter but this tends to be the fault of the cherry switch.
