What about an orange ESCAPE key in the orange kit? In addition to the orange GEEK HACK escape key.

Shouldn't this come in the orange blank keyset already?

Orange blank single sized keys
  • All single-sized keys for both ANSI 104-key and ISO 105-key layout.

Esc is single-sized key so it should be there already.

I thought the orange blank keyset had keys without the lettering, ie it wouldn't say 'ESCAPE' on it.

I have 2 questions:

Does the 1 1/4 shift key from the J-shaped return kit fit ISO or ANSI layouts?
Which keys from the blank ANSI modifier kit won't fit an ISO layout keyboard?
left shift, what else?

I'd assume there is no chance of a half black/half orange blank kit? Single-sized, as well as the modifier keys? Something among the lines of 10 orange blanks, 10 black blanks, and a few of each modifiers in each color would be the bomb.
Shelling out 120USD for all 4 blank kits is kinda crazy.

Anyone in Europe wanna go halfsies on the orange/black black sets?

import limit is 30$ including shipping! 25 euro including shipping.
haha.
or you write low value and if they get lost you get refunded almost to nothing..

I was wrong. At least in Germany, the limit for that 2% import tax is 150 EUR, but the limit for 19% VAT is 22 EUR. So it is even worse.

On the other hand, I know of no one who had to pay something in the last round. But be sure that a big box like that WhiteRice got from SP will not get through without being noticed by the customs.

Declaring the big box as being worth less than 22 EUR (or what ever limit it will be in another EU-country), could cause a bit of trouble if it gets lost in the mail....

It fits ISO layout. ISO is the 'European' layout, ANSI is the US layout.

Left shift, return, and 1-1/2-sized keys at the |\-position (above Return, below Backspace)

That would be great, thanks 7bit.
I'd figure there are more people like me, who would love to replace some function keys as well as modifiers with black AND orange blanks.
Would be cool to have like 10 of each to try out different combinations.

I'd sign up for that in an instant.

So you'd want your keyboard to look like a checker board? I'm just gonna use orange single sized blanks and black blank modifiers. I think that looks better.

Well not quite. Also I only want to mod function keys and modifiers, that's why buying a whole set, or even 2 whole sets would be overkill.
But hey, everyone has a different taste. To each his own.

Sorry that I have to say that, but there is already a split up of those blank key sets in single sized keys and modifier keys.

There are not many peoble who want those anyway.

Splitting up everything further, will not be helpful.

No, I don't. I asked iMav about that, but he did not answer. Maybe that information is encripted like passwords.

Some wanted blue WASD keys with arrows:

These are color samples. I don't know if SP can produce these colors.
The actual keys should have the same labeling as the Orange kit.
Vote for BLUEONWHITE if you want blue text on white keys, vote for WHITEONBLUE to get white text on blue keys.

If you want to have a different blue, just let me know.
To vote for color just send add one of these lines (lightblue is the current color shown in the samples):

Hi,

I voted yesterday I believe. Didn't check on Geekhack at just before and during christmas. Maybe that's what happened to the rest of the members, most of them are probably not active in between the years?

Either way, I did some advertising in the German forum I am active in, maybe it would be a good idea for others to do the same so we can get a few more.

I sincerely hope that I can get all the sets I voted for, if I can't I might lose interest in the order alltogether :(

I'm fortunate in that the three kits I want are the top three vote getters.  :)

I think the holidays is contributing both in the lack of members being here and the unavailability of funds now from other members.  :)

Maybe pull the trigger on the sets that have sufficient interest, and keep drumming up interest for the others for a follow up order (which could include another order of the most popular as well...if sufficient additional orders come up).

That's the weak point:

Some of these kits, I need for myself:

STANDARD.......52
FUNCTION........9
MODIFIER........9
POS.............9
ONEHALFMOD......8
NUMERIC.........7

I think we should wait until 15th January. There are still open questions I asked SP. Guess they will not work much until the first week of January.

Is there sufficient interest though? 51 standard sets yes, but all it takes is for two standard sets to be unpaid for and we fall below the 50 set threshold pushing the price up.

How many of those orders are reliant on other smaller sets? There are 16 requests for international variants on the list, a further 7 requests for Colemak and Dvorak. None of us know how much we'll have to pay for our extra bits yet and a few may drop out when we find out. Speaking personally, I've no intention of paying for anything until I know I can get a complete UK set for a "reasonable" price and I don't see why any of the other "international" buyers should either.

Besides, holding fire a little longer, collecting more interested people, may enable all of us to get a better deal.

I personally wont even have a cherry switch board to put them on until Mid Jan/Feb.  Im tempted to get the keycaps now just so i dont miss out on them but i have reservations about the large font.  But i do like the color scheme.

So what other differences are there from round 1?

I know the numeric row is centered now, what about colors?  Are they exactly the same or darker?

Edit:  Also is there any way to get black F1-F4 and F9-F12 and a black spacebar without ordering the function kit + modifier kit?  I dont really want to pay $28 for 8 keys...as i wont use the others these kits come with.

Colors are the same, font is the same, but there are no annoying arrows on those keys like TAB, RETURN, or SHIFT.

I'm thinking about that spacebar. Some people need a different one (Leopold) so maybe I will move thatone out of the Modifier kit. That function kit shouldn't be too expansive.

BTW, I added layout schemes for Blue on White, White on Blue kits. These contain that "WASD with arrows" key, but I'm not sure if SP can make it and if it will be cheap enough to be included. Also I don't know if someone wants it anyway.

« Reply #76 on: Wed, 29 December 2010, 08:59:41 »
Please tell me what you think about the Function kit.

What do you need, what could be removed.

Just tell me what you want!

These many MARK, SELECT, CUT, COPY, PASTE keys are not necessary.
I'm unsure if anybody, except for me, needs these keys at all.

I don't need them at more than one position.
So tell me if and where you need these!

Post suggestions here, or tell that 7bit-dude, if you are too shy.

If you want to vote for keys in the Function kit, send me (7bit_vote) a message with lines like:

FUNCTION keyname row

For keyname any text will do (except maybe for numbers).

Example:
FUNCTION CUT 1
FUNCTION COPY 2
FUNCTION PASTE 3
FUNCTION SELECT 4
FUNCTION CAPS LOCK 1

which would mean
CUT-button for row 1 (both top rows),
COPY-button for row 2 (QWERTY-row)
PASTE-button for row 3 (ASDFGH-row)
SELECT-button for row 4 (ZXCVBN and bottom row)
CAPS LOCK button for row 1 (both top rows again)

I don't know if this is too complicated, but I would like to know what to include.

For color balance/framing reasons i would personally like this color layout more

I just like the dark border/frame around the main keys, and breaking that darkness up on other keys.

But each person is so different it makes these orders very difficult to please everyone.

Thanks for your suggestions. I will think about that. It would be best to include F1 to F12 in both colors, so everybody can have any combination.

I don't know about the spacebar. Mayby I will remove grey the spacebar from the Standard kit and put all spacebars into a kit of their own, so everybody can choose the spacebar(s) they actually need.

If 50 spacebars are produced, price for the normal spacebar is $1.6 .
Still wait for an email from SP about other spacebar-formats.

Shipping was $14 world wide in Round 1.

Spacebars:
Default is a grey space bar (SPACEGREY) which matches Filco/Ducky and recent Cherry G80-3000.
You don't need to vote for that grey space bar, if you want this to be included to your Standard kit.

However, if you don't want it, but another one instead, add the following line to your vote:
SPACEGREY 0

If you fear to end up with Standard sets without a space bar:
I will check if there are as many space bars as Standard sets included and send you a note about that.

One space bar per Standard kit is free, if there are at least 25 being produced.

Additional space bars cost approx. $2 if 25 are being produced.

I did not get a response how much blanks will cost. To be on the safe side I make it a bit more expansive. If there are more orders and prices are lower for blanks, I will adapt these.

I have a request for the Orange kit... 'F', profiled for the QWERTY row :-)

(The Colemak equivalent of 'ESDF' is 'FRST').

I allowed for ESDF, then some French dude wanted something similar for FR-layout, now comes some Colemakian noob who wants FRST. If that continues, we will end up in a full A-Z orange kit for all Latin-character layouts!

;-)

It looks unlikely the Nordic layouts will be made. Only 9 votes so far. I might be willing to pay for 3 of that set just to get them made but everyone would need to do that for it to make any difference. :-/

Will any of the blank sets cover an ISO/UK style keyboard? I don't really understand that talk about single-sized keys. I'm a keyboard newbie I guess.

I wouldn't be so sure. 7bit insists that a UK set will be made yet there have been only 6 votes for that. I expect that the price will be higher.

Great, hopefully that goes for the Nordic keys too then.

Ok, thanks, then I guess the answer is no, there won't be a complete blank set for ISO/UK/105-key:
Quote
Orange blank single sized keys
    * All single-sized keys for both ANSI 104-key and ISO 105-key layout.
Orange blank modifiers
    * All non-single-sized keys for a US 104-key layout
Orange blank J-shape Return
    * J-shape Return plus 1 1/4 sized left Shift.

Too bad. I would definitely have purchased a set of blank orange keys too.

I hope that 7bit means "inverted L" when he says "J shape" because I've ordered that kit to complete my ISO set.

I think J-shape is what the Steelseries keyboards have. That's what this thread suggests in any case.

Not the point. J shaped return of no use to me or any other people who own ISO keyboards. If 7bit does mean J shaped then I cancel my blank orange order.

Pretty sure 7bit means the ISO shaped key - UK kit is described as having a J-shaped enter, and the graphic for that kit clearly shows the normal ISO shape.

So... CALM-DOWN-DON'T-PANIC!

Great, then I might get a blank orange ISO kit as well depending on the final costs of everything.

My only question now is:
If the 25 orders minimum is not reached for e.g. the Nordic kit(s) how much more expensive will they become if they are still made?
