I wish this guy was a bit easier to understand, I cant figure out if he is saying it was pre-ordered last year and just now finished or if they are available going forward.  I understand that only 500 were produced but I dont understand the rest of what hes saying.

.XL  - I doubt we could get that many people to buy one, probly wouldnt even be anywhere near that number.

Judging from his last post below, it's supposed to be very limited and that only 500 will be made and perhaps they're all spoken for which means we're out of luck.

I hope that isn't the case though.  Like I said before, I'd buy that in an instant if it isn't $400. lol

This is not a mass produced keyboard. Its designed and assembled by a single group of people. What was being "ordered" were parts which caused the delay in production. The PCB just finished production earlier this month and the keyboard will be released soon now.

The sales for this one were booked in advanced using the groupbuy system on OTD.kr. So, a group buy should not be possible. AQUA had announced that a foreign sale would probably be happening in 2012 or something. These will likely happen through eBay. To my knowledge the board is currently limited to 150 pieces, with another wave of 100 following later.

To answer some more questions from this thread:

1) The keyboard does not come with Cherry Corp keycaps, they were just used on the prototype. You are supposed to use "SoRaWeRe" keycaps with this. (Sora WYSE Replicia)

2) It uses Cherry stabilizers because they are generally the preferred type in the east

It seems Diatec/Plu doesn't belong to the east.

Buy it directly from their company. That way you can save on the shipping.

It's a better idea than the super heavy, but useless brass plate which supposed to minimize the sound resonance.

It's always a plus to be able to rip the keyboard out of your PC and beat the living **** out of an intruder leaving only minimal damage to the device(missing keycaps).

This is all under the assumption that you cannot reach your 1911.

Can someone summarize the differences between "The Cheats" and the "TypeNow"?  Is it just one is a kit?

English please.

The case of the "TypeNow" is lot nicer, and more refined, and has an elevated construction.

Also the feet are removable.

However "The Cheats" has a customizable firmware.

Actually its about the entire opposite. CMA (Copy my Ass aka the Cheat) is a hand-worked case with little to no flaws, while the TypeNowSolid is a mass produced unit with rough "scratches" even on the first batch of picitures.

I think both are very nice keyboards, though I would pick the CMA any day. Programmable and I prefer the colors. Not to mention the price is much lower too.

Alright, I'll chime in.

The Typenow is a custom keyboard created by Kant from KBDMania forums which is affiliated or owned by IOmania as well. So the IOmania TypeNow keyboard is their first in house custom keyboard. You could say that the Ddokyu keyboard is the root of all these custom keyboards which was the top dog of custom keyboards (still highly sought after and rare I might add.)

The Cheats is a custom keyboard created by users on OTD forums as you may all know. It was a custom kit group buy deal.

Both keyboards are created separately and are not related to each other in any way as far as I know. I will say this though, there was a break out awhile ago between KBDmania and OTD regarding group buys and such and resulted in a whole mess.

I might offer my help for translating all the stuff properly once I get in contact with Kant, but I won't have time until end of next week. It pains me to see a horrible translation influencing the image of such a high quality keyboard. :P

Is the typenow solid the reason for the mess your talking about?  I read that part of the reason OTD is so shy with information is they had some designs and whatnot stolen or copied?

This may be where aming and I take the next group buy if we can get enough interest...

But there will need to be some serious discussion first.

People have tried, the main problem is all the bickering that usually starts in the thread afterwords and then the person who is trying to get it going just gives up.  The other problm is the complexity of doing a keyboard like this, you have to source a ridiculous amount of stuff (PCB, Controller, keys, stabilizers, design, milling).  The best way to go about something like this in my opinion would be to get about 50 dedicated people who agree on what they want and who will be in it until the board is finished even if it takes a year and dont mind spending the extra coin.  I just dont think thats going to happen although I would be up for it.

The way I see it, the only option at this point for a board like this for me is the typenow solid which im really not a fan of =( as getting one of the 356 boards or even one of these "the cheats" just doesnt seem plausible.

I disagree. The problem is the capital needed up front (typically $5,000+) to fund the damn thing!

I was working with the Leopold designer before trying to make a tenkeyless rebranded Leopold with clears for the GH community. I decided against doing it in the end, but if anyone is interested to take something like that on, I can put you in touch with Archisite. Just let me know. Like I said though, you're probably looking at spending about $5k up front for production.
