I was going through a store today, and I recognized "Tequila" being played... and then they played another familiar song, but I couldn't remember the name.

However, I did find it eventually - here's a live performance of the hit version:

Not very contemporary, I'm afraid. One way to see how much time has passed...

And then there's the original:

I thought there had to be one...

As for Alizée, she did sing her hit in English as well, so we can have lyrics we understand:

Or, you can have an English translation of the French lyrics:

Here, for a change, is something new and different (well, a little bit) instead of old and tired:

I vaguely remembered this song, but couldn't quite get the words right. Playing with spelling variations led me to this famous old country hit from 1963:

A discussion of articles about the Telstar satellite in the Bell System Technical Journal led me to search for some items...

it turns out that the Early Bird satellite also inspired some songs to be written.

And there was even an artist who sang Telstar with lyrics:

In some foreign languages, this also happened:

The earlier posting of Russian-language music led me to look at related links, but I did not find much I liked. Later, I came across this very nice song in another Slavic language:

This little-known singer is most famous for doing the vocal for "Where is Your Heart (The Song from Moulin Rouge)" on a Percy Faith record. This is from an album which has another selection on it that sounded like Percy Faith's orchestra was dong the music... but this one is clearly by another backing orchestra. Nelson Riddle? I'm afraid I'm not expert enough to recognize it.

And here's a Greek version of a famous popular song... yet the title in Greek doesn't have the word "fengari" in it anywhere.

Oh, and by the way, I've found that some people in Japan have good taste in music:

For me it changes every day. Some day's I'll just put seoul.fm on and let whatever comes up play. Other days I'll put instrumental guitar on (Ewan Dobson) or else a soundtrack from something I enjoyed recently. A lot of my friends like dubstep too so I can't avoid hearing that every so often although I'm not personally that into it unless I really just want to crank it up and blast something as loud as possible. And sometimes if I know my friends are watching I'll put it on to play while I stream some Starcraft 2.

I have been listening to Parov Stelar a good amount at work lately, music with no words tends to be less distracting for me while working and I like them quite a bit. For chilling out I like a lot of stuff but State Radio is probaly my favorite.

First heard this on the radio the other night and I'm looking forward to his album release.

Oh, and I came across this on YouTube:

A music video of a cover of The Shadows' Apache that was so campy that many people have used the video with other music in YouTube postings.

Here's another version also with good audio:

Sorry, no dinosaur suit, but the same Yamaha technology behind this performance of an oldie but a goodie:

And a performance by a renowned recording artist in a jazz piano style:

Both Sides Now was one of my favorite songs. I especially liked a hard-to-find version by Robert Goulet, but the version by Judy Collins is just as good, and at least she remembered the lyrics correctly; here's a live performance with the Boston Pops:

I came across this Dutch romantic ballad by Xander de Buisonjé and his group Volumia!

as the result of noting how nice the melody was on a version played on a Tyros 1... there's an even nicer version played on a GEM SK76 on YouTube:

And I was recently reminded of this song about rocketry:

Right now? The build up to the premier of Nero's dubstep symphony performed by Nero and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. Streamed live, worldwide.

It might be great, it might be ****. But will more than likely be interesting.

but I was even able to find this:

Those Russians, they have to claim they invented everything first!

Actually, though, the dashing Khazbulat appears to have been an Ingush national hero. The next-door neighbors of the Chechens, with whom Russia seems to be having problems.

Well, America has "Weird Al" Yankovic.

Being... silly... is one way to express rejection of one's society without risking expressing an explicit political position, and that may be all they dare to do in Serbia to present themselves as... authentic... to the young people who reject their country's aggression.

Well the PC version is exactly the same as the console version. It even says "Don't turn off the console" on the save screen. It's definitely worth a play through.

This album is awesome even if you haven't played the game.

The PS3 version comes with a free Steam download for PC.  It's a great game, and the co-op mode is really fun too, with the most challenging puzzles.  If your kid didn't do co-op yet you guys should run through it.  There is split screen or you can do cross-platform play between PC and PS3.
