I use keyboards for
work as a computer programmer. It is the most important tool I use.
I use keyboards after work too, being here and at other boards and for social networking.. That adds up to up to 12 hours 'a day, every day.
I have had medical problems in my hands, wrists, arm and shoulders called
Repetitive Strain Injury and
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome caused by having used cheap keyboards, mice and in improper ways. The members of Geekhack have helped me to find keyboards and mice that don't give these problems, and in turn I try to help other new members after me. From this, I have been inspired to design and construct my own ergonomic keyboard.
Even though, a good keyboard in new condition could cost $125 dollars. I have never spent that much on a single keyboard.
My
other hobby involves collecting of
paperweights, or building
costumes that may cost up to $1000 ... or more. Not too long ago, I spent $150 on raw, untrimmed parts of sheet plastic that would cover my legs, and I still have to spend at least ten hours to adjust them to make them fit me.
Of the two hobbies that I have,
this hobby of geeking out about keyboards is the more serious one, and the least expensive.
