Per my usual...
Weekly payment report from 08/06/2012 through 08/10/2012:

08/09 nntnam, $xx.00 USD
08/08 staffanu, $xxx.03 USD
08/08 PointyFox, $xxx.90 USD
08/08 nomaddude, $xxx.93 USD
08/07 kvad, $x.07 USD
08/06 gbohn, $xx.35 USD

PointyFox, let me know if you still want a refund. I'd hate to see you miss out on these keycaps.   Yeah, it's taking a long time, but we are nearing the home stretch.  I just sent you a PM on DT.

I'm posting these payment update lists here for your reference only as a curtesy. No action is necessary.
I "x" out the dollar amount for your privacy and leave the decimal amount for you to check against your records if you wish.

*Note: When I process your payment I mark them in Paypal as "Mark as Shipped". Paypal has been known to lock accounts where "Goods" payments are not marked as shipped within a certain amount of time. Since these GBs take so long, to avoid your payments being frozen up by Paypal, I mark them as shipped. Paypal will send you an email saying your order has been marked as shipped. * The shipping company will show as "7bit" and the "tracking number" will be your invoice number and username.

**Note: Your actual caps order has not shipped yet. The orders will ship after SP manufactures them, sends them to 7bit and he will ship them to you and notify you of the actual ship date and tracking information.

Thank you guys for your timely payments

7bit_R4 is a bot.
Poseidon, 7bit_R4 goes to an automated script that keeps track of orders.  No human will reply to messages sent to that address so don't send questions there, only orders.  The script will record information related to your order like your payment method, email address and shipping address.  See the wiki for specific instructions.  See the OP for the link to the wiki.  When you send order updates or information to the 7bit_R4 bot don't include any extra text or spaces.  Format it exactly per the wiki instructions.

LOL.  Then I suggest you try to find them on eBay or Amazon.com.  This is not a simple, "lets order some standard, ready made caps" buy.  A factory has to be tooled up to make them and we have to collect orders and then payments from hundreds of people all over the world.  They won't be shipping this month or next.  I would not promise them to anyone for Christmas either.  My wild ass guess based on no facts and little experience is ETA first quarter 2013.

Attention, everyone in this Group Buy.

This is in information update.

There has been a lot of guessing and speculating on the status of this Group Buy.  I've communicated directly with Melissa at Signature Plastics and asked her for the actual status of where we are right now.

On 8/6/2012 I wired to Signature Plastics $10,025.00 USD of the approximately $10,400.00 USD that I have collected and continue to collect.

On 8/15/2012 9:38 PM Melissa informed me that production on the keycaps will begin when payment has bee made in full for the order.  The current unpaid balance on the order is approximately $44K USD.

If you look at the list of caps and sets that 7bit posts regularly you'll see that there are a lot of caps that have not been ordered yet.

Above are the known facts.  Everything following is my opinion or what I understand to be likely to be true based on my observations.

The group buy seems to be going fine, but because it is such a massive buy, it's going to take a long time to come to completion.  Just look at the number of sets and options available.  How long does it take just to read the entire wiki describing the sets available?  How long does it take Signature Plastics to make a single blue and yellow "Geek Hack" cap?

This buy is not for putting a set of caps on your keyboard for work next Monday morning.  This buy is to give us a set or two, depending on what we order, of custom, one of a kind key caps for our most awesome keyboards.  You aren't going to throw these caps on a cheap mechanical keyboard.  You're going to put them on your favorite, most expensive high end mechanical keyboard and you're going to want to show it off.  At least I know that's that I'm going to do with my RETRO/STDRGBYSYM set.  That was my favorite set, but the others are equally awesome and unique.

Yeah, it's going to take several months just to finish taking orders and collecting money to pay Signature Plastics, then it's going to take SP probably two to four months to manufacture them.  I'm guessing about that figure based on the estimated 45 days for a small group buy.  This buy is massive, so it's going to take a long time, but these sets will definitely be worth waiting for.  Just order the caps you like and then be patient.  Don't check the mailbox every day, you'll notice when they show up.  You know the saying about the "watched pot."   :D

I got a set of Cherry DS from MagicMeatball... yeah, they are nice!  ;)  I'm glad I have another Filco to put my Retro/RGBSym set on though.  ;)

Yes!  That! Didn't the DAS Keyboard II come with blank keys with scoops?  I think mine came on the Das II.  I ended up putting them on my bluetooth Filco a long time ago so I'm not sure.  I love those keys.  I think they are ABS but they are as thick as two nickels stacked together.

Yes.  I forget the model number, but it's still a common model.  80-3000 maybe?

Ah yes.
from dtwiki:

Das Keyboard II
It was manufactured by Cherry. It is basically a black G80-3000 without the key laser etching and infill.
PCB-mounted Cherry MX Blue switches. Keys caps made of POM plastic.

As a question, im assuming that some of the SPH modifier keys dont reach the full lengths based on the picture in the wiki, and I just wanted to see if this assumption was correct.

That is correct. The two shifts and the return key are not available in the correct full lengths, so the next smaller size is used, which will leave a 2.4mm gap on each end.

For return, there is the alternative of SPH/MRET, which is the correct full length but is described as "matte" finish rather than "semi-matte" like the rest of the keys.

Personally, I'm using short shift keys with a 1-unit AltGr to the outside to fill the space, but this is not an option for people using the keys on an existing keyboard.

Quote from: pederlol from DT
...As for prices on sets, I thought that was why the prices kept changing over the last year - beacuse they were adjusted to the amounts ordered - not according to a guestimate.

Also, at some point, 7bit has to either

1) cancel evertything
2) adjust orders to what has actually been paid for
3) wait ∞ days until we can order our keys

NOTICE:

2) is highly likely.

I think anyone with an order in should make their payments as soon as possible.  This buy may be coming to a close soon with what orders have been placed to date.

Are you volunteering?

I wouldn't call it "collapsing".  I think I would call it, "Let's not drag it out into eternity."  People have had over a year to order what they want and pay for their order.  I think it's high time we say let's do this thing and get our caps.  Those who have paid have an order.  As far as I'm concerned, unpaid orders are still in the "interest check" phase.  Caps that have not been order are apparently not in high demand.

What's course of action would you suggest?  I'm not asking that retorically.  I'm interested in your suggestions.  There are a lot of people involved in this group buy.  I'm fairly new on the scene, so I would like to have your input.  There are a lot of people in this Group Buy who have been with GeekHack.org a lot longer than I have.  If you have an opinion or a suggestion, I'm asking that you voice it now.  I can't promise that any or every suggestion will be followed because I'm not the only one involved in the decisions here, but I can promise that I will take any reasonable comment into consideration weighted by other legal and practical necessities.
I also promise not to ridicule any suggestion, regardless of how asinine.  Just kidding there.  ;-) Vent if you want to, I won't blame you a bit.  But, we need to start thinking of drawing this thing to a conclusion that gets us some cool cap sets this side of the next decade.
