unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

Akimbo its probably because you ordered dummy kits. That's why mine (0385) hasn't been packed yet.

Ahhh....that I did!

I didn't, I bet I'm one of the ones missing keys

I've got lots of dummy keys too.  But really, what's a few more weeks to R4?  It's like waiting for the mailman to hike up the stairs.

How are these being shipped? I may have forgot that I moved and didn't update my shipping info. If it's mail it should get forwarded, otherwise I have to go to my old place (which really isn't that far, I'm just lazy).

What's inside the the dummy kits?

1 dummy kit entitles the owner to a share of the ~10000 leftover keys
It came out to 7.7 keys per kit.  I ended up with 77 keys, which means I have to fight it out with everyone else to try and claim the spares that I want.  The process hasn't been very smooth for me...

You must contact 7bit on Deskthority with issues like that.

all of this is so confusing.

i want a US ANSI Round 3 TKL Kit.  or a gamer set. For the life of me i cannot figure out if there are leftovers.

this whole deskthority order is overly complicated. then again this is the largest group buy ever done right?

geekhack > Deskthority

To be fair, R4 (and R3 before it) began on geekhack.  I imagine 7bit isn't thinking about leftovers until the group buy orders are shipped.

Indeed, R4 effectively meant "Signature Plastics Keycap Group Buy #4", back when there was only one large SP GB at a time.  R4 tried to be way to many things at once, while also trying to fix the errors in R3.  Yes, there are people with R3 sets from over 2 years ago that are still waiting for replacement caps.  It spiraled completely out of control when SP jacked-up their prices and lots of people backed-out.

In the meantime, the entire GB landscape has changed.  Now, SP GBs happen all the time and there are vendors supplying us with key sets and novelty keys at will.  We also now have QWERkeys, GMK, etc.  Remember the "Ragnarok" set (red on black)?  That was supposed to be part of R4 ("Blood"), but was dropped by 7bit along with Oranje due to lack of interest.  Rag took the Blood idea, pruned it down to the essentials, and sold 131 base sets!  In fact, I think the Ragnarok set was the first set to use the now-common ANSI TKL+104+ISO+Tsangan kit concept.  The downside of this was that it ditched all of the foreign language packs, leaving non-ANSI users in the cold.  Conversely, part of the reason it sold so well was because of the pricing (base ANSI wasn't subsidizing rare language packs).  This problem has yet to be solved.

There are a lot of unique things about R4 and it's great to finally see them ship!.

Just offer language pack(s)….problem solved.  :)  For DCS and for SA family there should be all legends/molds available now and no subsidizing necessary anymore. Only DSA missing yet. ;)

I think it was mentioned already many times…..but its not only ANSI subsidizing non-ANSI, its also the other way around. When I am going to buy an additional language pack, I am not going to use lots of keys from ANSI base set. But I still pay the full ANSI set and bringing up the MOQ resp. bringing down the price for the ANSI set. People tend to be very egocentric when it comes to keys which they don’t use, but which they have to subsidize. But this subsidizing needs to be done only one time and afterwards the tools are ready for use for a long time and many GB’s with potentially higher selling rates. So in the long run, I assume, you even save money due to more people able/willing to participate on forthcoming GB’s because of more variety.

Also having in mind, lots of people willing to spend $400-$500 for Korean custom boards or $200 for a single clack key, its hard to understand why $5-10 subsidizing is so painful for some.

There are a lot of unique things about R4 and it's great to finally see them ship!.

True! I cannot be more thankful to 7 bit for having the passion and dedication to make all these new legends/molds for SA family available (also DCS family? not sure). Big thumbs up!  :)

Interested in any noir 1.25x mods... mainly just the playstationish ones.  Not even a full 8-key set necessarily... just one or maybe two matching pairs would be nice.

Mostly likely not. This group buy actually was over a year delayed.  7bit might sell extras at some point, but I wouldn't count on it.  Best bet would be looking at different sets.

He ordered way more than he originally sold to get to certain price tiers, but it took so long to finish collecting money that he had sold most of them by the time production finished.  I'm sure he has some reserve for defects and mistakes, but it doesn't sound like he will have full sets to sell.

Just watch the classifieds.  I was dying for a R3 set at the time, but now I am sort of over it.  I'm sure a lot of other people feel the same way.  I'm not looking to sell anything just yet (we waited for over a year after all), but I imagine I eventually will.  SP still doesn't know how to do kerning or even how to use the same font size (BA CK  SPA CE, CONTROL, etc).

lol. me too. i am over the Round 3 set. thanks to the Redline DOLCH DSA group buy going on now! plus i got my R4 SPH set (thanks to mmmty) and i could not be happier.  except for the fact that the R4 SPH set cant utilize o-rings...

i would like to get some of the terminal modifiers if there are any leftover for SPH set.  But i cant figure out 7-bits system for the life of me. Does anyone know if their are any?

Probably not.  I don't think 7bit will ever do one of these again.

Don't even speak the words.  Another buy of this magnitude will never happen again.  The individual sets can certainly be done again if there's sufficient interest, as separate group buys.  But R4 is the end of the legendary Doubleshot Replacement saga.

Sorry if I came off rude.  It's just this round ... put a lot of stress on a lot of people.  If you go back to the first page of this thread you'll see a nooby user called hashbaz who missed R3 and is very excited about R4.  Note the post date. ;)

Very interested in the RETRO set.  Is it intended to look like classic Cherry doubleshots?

Rounds 1 and 3 had standard sets at around $50, right?  Any chance of getting that low this time if we get enough people, or are the prices shown on the wiki firm?

Also, what is our timeline here for the various stages of this buy?  "Months", I know, but we should probably have some specific goals in mind.
