I don't think adding a fee into group buys is a good idea. The way group buys go and the whole convoluted confusion of what fee is getting contributed and when sounds like an inevitable charlie foxtrot.

They were done by someone on kbdmania. SP will let us use it if we have written permission from the owners of the legends if not we can pay the legend fees and then we can use it. We just don't have the permission from the person that made the legends so basically kbdmania.

Paying money for something you know you're going to actually get your hands on is one thing.

Donating money for some tentative project with no known deadline or outcome will not motivate enough people.

I think I specific pledge drive to get it done with visual feedback of the projects progress will actually work and we'll see this turn from a nebulous phantom into an actual reality.

I don't get it. I'd gladly take the money. You could even make a deal that it requires another GB paying another 200$ (so that it's 50:50 in the end, more than fair) until they're open for public use.

Set up a sticky thread and have the total amount at the top. Then allow GH members to pledge an amount, say $5-10 to start.

Show who is pledging and what amount with some kind of chart to monitor progress.

When enough pledges have been made to reach the goal, start sending out PMs/invoices to collect the full amount instead of accruing it over time.

With the first full set produced, have a certificate with all contributors and a one time mod kit or special key added in.

I did miss it.  Anyhow I don't think that your idea and my idea are mutually exclusive.  If you want to run with that, please do.  And we can have a friendly competition on which method is going to raise more money.

tsangan, you've been in contact with the owner(s) of the legends on kbdmania, and offered them money, and they refused?  Jerks.  Do we have any pictures of how the legends look?

Who wants to be point person on this?  Talk to Melissa to verify the total cost, accept the funds, etc.?  Also we should get started on SVGs.  I'm currently working on Backspace, Enter, Tab, and Backslash/Pipe for the R3 moogle buy.  Depending on how fast and nice they turn out, I might be willing to take the rest on.  And there's also cycloverid and hazeluff who are known quality legend-makers.

Well their legends aren't even Cherry legends, someone just brought up using their custom font so I was just saying why we can't that's all. I would rather prefer a Cherry replica anyways if I had to choose what to spend money on

The pledge idea is cool, especially if each person can put it "towards" a certain key.  Kind of silly, but then they can call it their own if they cover the whole fee...put it in their sig, etc.

As to the GB surcharge, why not make it voluntary?  The way my brain works, it's easier to impulse-buy something small when I am already paying for something else (like when I bought a crapload of colored keys from Unicomp when all I really needed was a couple of springs).  "Your already paying for shipping," it says to me.
