Great idea of color combination! I encourage that!

I wish I wasn't so cheapskate to never buy key caps.

*Edit:

Actually, wait a bit, how many sets have been ordered yet? I might be interested in the cheapest ones at 56.11 (75 sets) or maybe at 50 sets too.

Who makes those weird key caps?

I believe we have around 25 people interested ( as of now ).

I like this simple font, is it the Filco one?

I suggest not changing it.

Will we get two Miami win key replacement? My keyboard as two winkeys.

Also the extra and larger keys are white, or white/grey, is that desired? Or they will end up being teal on pink just like the others?

Thank you, this is only an interest check so we'll see next month how it will turn out!

I can't say for the win keys.

But for the white, I believe it was intended, but it can always be changed. It's an interest check afterall.

The font in the mockup is Helvitica/Arial (no idea what the filco one is). But when manufactured it'll be a different font. The font atm is just for show.

Additonal keys will be on white, Miami win keys x2, flamingo menu, WASD, possible some others... Well that is the current plan anyway. Font will be SP 'gorton' as anything else is quite a lot more expensive.

Not at all like 'Futura' which is the font used by Filco.

So the font should look something like this?

Yes. Just plain SP font. Like the previous groupbuy sets, but with the letters not so large. There are plenty of pics of them around, I'm too lazy to find a good one.

I have just read ONE bad thing or TWO about signature plastic so it's is good that you want to keep it more straightforward and cheap while getting the job done!

I didn't know about fonts costing more than other fonts, I thought it was just a different set of mold for the machine.

I kind of dig the different colored larger custom keys actually! And white + pink looks very fitting with the rest. I was asking about it but I won't be among the ones suggesting to change it :P.

Tonight I'll see if I can think of some possible light improvements.

That is why different font is more expensive, it is a different mold. New molds cost money, around $35 each. 87 new molds for keys in a custom font gets very expensive. An all custom font would add $3050 to the total cost.

I have my fair share of complaints about SP, but unfortunately they essentially have a monopoly going, and there is no other choices I have found.

What is kerning? I have read this word quite a few times while reading the signature plastic rant thread, or wikis you call those?

It's not a literary definition I could find on Wordreference.com and I couldn't pinpoint it with my usual "kerning mean site:geekhack.org" Google search.

Lysol : not make new molds for each of us but give us a selection of basic fonts / molds they already have?

Kerning is so it doesn't end up like GEEK HA CK but GEEK HACK like it should have been, space is a little too much in my example, but there is like a quarter space that shouldn't be there.

Good question.  Between Jerome Kern and Kern County California it's not easy to Google:

I just added this to the Mechanical Keyboard Guide Glossary:

I'm sure Melissa knows this.  She doesn't want to hassle with it.

Now Steve Jobs really got into proportional fonts.  The only thing he learned from Reed College.

Omg Wikipedia... Not the first time this guy knows about a word dictionary doesn't.

I though it was a neologism only you guys using to describe a certain reality... not something this official.

Thank you, I understood that kerning (Google chrome underline me this word in red) was about having the right space between letters, in consideration of which two characters were making up for the pair of letters to be adjusted, one next to the other. Overlapping their "vital" space and making them a bit closer together to improve the look of a font. And the font used in command window doesn't have kerning.

It has nothing to do with "centerization" or alignment of the actual printed legend.

Proportional
monospace
poor kerning or is it monospace?
I don't think there is much argument that proportional looks far more appealing.

However I am 78% confident Signature Plastics will screw it up.  Probably will come out "GeekSmack".

Oblig:  GLWIC.

"GeekSmack" sounds like some really kinky porno. Can we feature ripster as the MC?

Well they technically could, they just won't since it has multiple line widths, and would require a cutter change... too much work for them apparently. What I don't get is that on graphic/icon type legends, they don't seem to have a problem with multiple line widths, or I am missing something?

Nice to hear that Lysol, give it some time to run specially since Ragnarocks GB went so well and most likely will also the Cream cheese. I have no doubt this one will do well too even though has the pink color, the colors look rich and the combo of both is really nice, who cares if its pink when it looks good.

Nothing but standard 87 ANSI kit is currently planned. If there is enough demand for other keys (ISO enter, 1.5 modifiers, numpad, etc), I will see about adding it.

I was addressing lootbags question about other keysizes. Set will still include the alternate WASD pink on white, the 1.25 Miami and flamingo keys, and geek hack keys. Other keys may be offered if there is enough interest for those that may want ISO keys, 1.5 or 1 unit modifiers, 1.75 or 2 unit shifts, numpads... Just not enough have asked for any of it at this time for me to even get a quote.
