photography is about second to input devices as geeky stuff. enough people replied in my IC lens sale to fill a thread.

every once in a while i like to shake up my lens kit. i'm on nikon full-frame (d700), and have been doing 40/2 + 85/1.4 for a while but i'm getting bored again. as you may know, i'm selling most of my lenses, and my idea was to try a slightly different kit, but i have no idea what. i've already nixed the 24-70, as it's too big, and normal is kind of boring. i've actually never tried to shoot longer than short tele, but 70-200s are pretty expensive.. i was considering picking up a 35/1.4, but ehhhhhh

ideas? suggestions? unrelated discussion? bueller? bueller? bueller?

i was really into wide angle the last couple of years, but i feel like i'm over the wide zoom (17-35), and the uwa prime (20). i haven't tried a 24, 28 or 35 prime recently though.

I'd love to be able to buy more lenses for my digital, unfortunately I don't have that much money right now :\ I still do a lot of film work with my mamiya rb67, it's a little more hassle with developing and all, but I'm always much more satisfied when I get a good shot.

Need some advice from the Nikon guys...

I recently got a Sony Nex 3a http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Alpha-NEX3A-Digital-Camera/dp/B003MPUO9W/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1332472254&sr=1-6

Now Sony wasn't my first choice but I got it off craigslist for $280

Well I just bought a Nikon F mount adapter http://www.ebay.com/itm/220961507991?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_1754wt_1396
Looking for a lens that would be good for keyboard photography and maybe even just an all around better lens than the 16mm my Sony came with.

Also wondering if anyone can point me to a good forum with classifieds where I might be able to purchase photography things. Thanks

Here are some I took on a trip to Maine. Plain old Sony digital camera, nothing fancy - I prefer to manipulate the angles rather than the camera. None of these were touched with an editor, not even for saturation.

for keyboard photography you want something like one of the short macros. i use an AI'd 55/3.5 (but on full frame). there are quite a few revisions of this lens you might want to read up on. this won't be great for general photography for you since it will turn into a short tele. another option is to get a 28/2.8 AIS nikkor. you want one of the later serial numbers with the floating element. these have a high repro ratio and turn into a nice normal lens for general photography on your body.

another possible option is any revision of the nikon 35/2, AI or later. the later ones have better coatings, but the optical formulation didn't change much over the years. repro ratio is something like 1:4-5, which is ok for keyboard photography, but not amazing.

imo, the best lens for you is probably the sony 18-55mm kit lens for nex mount.

good luck!

Funny I actually won a 28mm 2.8 AIS on Ebay before I read this. Should have some much improved shots in the next week or 2. Thanks!

keep in mind that the 28/2.8 has a high level of barrel distortion that increases at close focus. you should be able to correct it in software, but that will be why your lines go all curvey

there probably isn't a lightroom distortion profile for that lens (although: fun fact, it's one of the last AIS lenses still manufactured. every few years nikon sendai makes a few hundred of them..). there's should be a profile for PTLens though.

Check out kenrockwell.com. I bet he has what you need.

I really like the Nikkor 85mm f/1.4. Some of the best bokeh I've ever seen. The most amazing lens I've ever seen for general photography is the Nikkor 18-200mm VR lens. It's not the best at everything it does, but it is very good at it all. Unbelievable good optical engineering, and the VR is nice.

Oh, and add a Tokina 11-16mm for those crazy wide shots, and never need another lens. ;-)

Nikon 40mm f/2.8g for less than $300.00 new around $225 used.  On an NEX body, it'll be a nice 60mm equiv.
The next option would be a Nikon 60mm f/2.8D.  I would buy this one used for around $350.  It'll give you some more working room than the 40mm.

Thanks for the heads-up and I'll take your word on the adapter.  I don't bother clicking on any ebay links... that place is unholy.

14-24mm.  There is absolutely no reason to own an FF camera without one of these.  This or a Sigma 16mm FE.  WTF is a 40/2?

As great as the it is, 10-24 on DX will never be as wide as the 14-24 on a FX body.

The 14-24 is one of the handful of reasons (needs) to upgrade to FX (I count three reasons).

True. But think of the MONEY I saved!
Don't remind me fo the money you saved on the body and the lens.
Thankfully, this other hobby of mine actually brings in some $$... my cameras and lenses have practically paid for themselves and them some.
