How about a companion cube and cake doubleshot and then dye sub the rest?  I would think companion cube and cake are simple enough for a doubleshot.

Why would you want two doubleshots in a full dye-sub set?

The color on black MUST be doubleshots. I am in for at least two sets of anything portal. Please PM me when it is time. Add me to the list, as I can't keep up with geekhack. ;-P

And why would you want two black doubleshots in a row of white dye-subs?

Because they’re not in the same row as the Double Shots are modifiers?

I understood boilermakers request for being the cake and the companion cube in Row4 as doubleshot, which makes no sense to me.

Though I am for doubleshot modifiers. (Mentioned a few pages before with just the portals on them)

.

You cannot dye sub colors onto black. These have to be doubleshots. Understand?

So you are going to try dye subbing an entire keycap black, with a little bit of blue or orange in the middle? I don't think you know how dyesub process works, or maybe you are an engineering genius and have devised new methods. Do share.

Actually that’s a nice idea, combined with dying the parts you can’t dyesub. You know, kind of Deck-ish. We should try that some time. xD

Yeah maybe that or maybe I just answered to the following request that I didn't like it.

I understood he wanted the companion cube and the cake in the original set (the row4-set) as doubleshots and the remainders dye-sub. Which would look awful.

I have been told by the dyesubbers that it cannot be done.  I assume the reason given was that dyes do not cover, so they wouldn't take to an already black key - that much is clear, and not possible. The only conceivable way that I could think of would be to dye sub the entire key, but I assume they would have considered that, and written it off as infeasible.

No. I was exceptionally clear in what I expect to be doubleshots. I assume all of the white keys would be just as they were before, dyesub. This is giving me a headache.  Are you glaDOS?!?

Ah. I think I see where you were complaining about something else, and then no one was clear about anything.  Right, it doesn't make sense to do two of the whites as doubleshots. Nor does it make sense to dyesub the blacks.

Alright, then we've clarified that. I hope your head will soon be better.

Sent from my potato. I'm not GLaDOS.

You're right, it does not make sense.

I had planned to put this up during ripster's stint as the number one potato, but I got sidetracked and have not been by DT to see if it still fits.

The reason that you can't dyesub on black keys is best compared to being unable to see in pitch black darkness. The color/white may be there when you turn the light on, but it is overpowered by the darkness. The metaphorical turning the light on, is lightening the key color. Thus the better colors turn out on whiter keys, and the more contrast is shown.

Anyways I'm going to assume Boilermaker did mean that he wanted some of the function row set as doubleshots, but remove them from the set, creating either duplicates or replacements. Thus those that wanted a doubleshot companion cube Esc only could have that, and if someone wanted the whole function row, they could get the whole set... or if they wanted both they could use them interchangeably, since it would likely have the same legend. I don't think I will be removing 2 of the most popular legends from the full set, even if an equivalent doubleshot is offered standalone.

Anyways, I'll get an image up here soon where I circle the legends I'm considering dropping, and potential ones I'd like to replace them with. Ones like the guy falling in the water or getting hit in the face with the... whatever that ball of stuffs is, can go and in their place we get a potato and... whatever else you guys like!

This is exactly my thought process...to be a separate offering that people can grab like 5-10 cubes or modifiers without needing to get 5-10 full sets.  After thinking about it, a companion cube may be hard to do in 1 color, but I'd still buy it :).  Thanks ragnorock for keeping this going!  Can't wait to empty my wallet on this one.

Yeah the main problem with that is that the cube becomes all one color, when the pink heart is really what makes it. Same with the cake key, the cherry looks amazing on it.

I dunno, if you guys want to do that I'm open to the idea, it just depends on the interest. Each would require its own legend fee, probably the $60 expensive one, so we'd need to do lots of keys to make it worthwhile and I'm not sure there's the interest for it. The portal modifier keys have plenty of interest though, so those will be happening.

I'm a big fan of the original set, but some modifier keys would be nice. I'd honestly by anything portal related though.

Why not just leave the original alone, and make a Portal 2 set separate? Could have the portal in and out man, portals, potato, whatever else relevant Portal 2 icons.

Another vote for companion cube, and having Portal/2 set separate. A turret would be great too. "Are you still there?"
And so drawing on my fine command of language, I said nothing.

A set is $20 right? I'm in. Also I love the idea of having the portals on modifier keys; also really want a companion cube to put on esc or something lol.
