UPDATE: New Acrylic Case has come out!

Check out the following images, they show the bottom views of the new case. So it won't look exactly like the original ones as shown is the pictures I provided before. The upper support of the bottom frame would be shorter than the older one's, so you can't see the upper support of the bottom frame from the left and right sides of the keyboard.

[ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] 47944 [ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] 48335

MKC brought something new this time beside those zinc keycaps.

It's Transparent Acrylic Frame. Designed for some of the Tenkeyless keyboards with the usb cable setting in the middle. Such as Filco TKL and Plu 87.

For now, the only thing I can be sure is that this acrylic frame would fit Filco 87 and Plu 87. Not sure if it fits on Leopold or the other TKL keyboards, I'll try to make him go buy a Keycool 87 (which is kinda a pattern of Leopold 87) to see if it works.

The shell contains 2 parts as the cover and the base. You don't need to use a tool to put them together because they are combined by the magnet. (As you can see from the pics, those little silver circles around the edge are the magnet that I'm talking about.) The magnets are pretty strong and the 2 parts of the frame combined tightly. When you wanna take them apart, you need to pull hard.

This is just a rush group buy. I'll call it pre-1st round. So it means there will be a formal 1st round of the group buy in the future. But I don't know when it will be yet. Probably after June or July.

I'm sorry about the rush. But I have to catch up with MKC's time schedule. I will have to stop taking orders on 4/30/2012. I might have some extra cases when I'm ready to ship, but not guaranteed.

Now I provide two options for the acrylic frame: Total Clear Version and Frost Finished Version (covering the controller).

The pictures underneath show the frost finished version, you can hardly see the controller under the frame. And the total clear version will not has that frost finishing, which means you will be able to directly see the controller.

Pricing:

The price is $95 plus shipping. (It includes $10 tips for me due to the reason I don't have a car right now and I'll have to ride my poor bike with these kinda big packages to the post office, which is also why I'm only selling keycaps recently. And I need to well pack these frames into the boxes, it's not as easy as throwing the keycaps into a mailer)

The first 10 people who placed the order successfully will receive a red anodized aluminum R4 (Esc row) "dragon" keycap as gift. The image of the "dragon" will be in silver. The other areas of the keycaps will be red. They are high quality made and much more expensive than those zinc keycaps.

Finally, here's the image of the "dragon" used on the red anodized aluminum keycaps.

It sounds interesting for use but right now I can't see the image attachments because it says "Invalid Attachment specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator".

Could you look into it? I would like to see that frame :D

I believe you can also start another bulk on the SS7G style killer wrist rest for 87keys(filco) which also made by mkc.

That's kinda too big, it would costs more on shipping and even more inconvenient to ship out. I'm sure I'll do more group buys once I get a car after June maybe.

Nice!  VERY similar to my acrylic case design - the thicker back fit Filco's USB connector, the Filco controller cut out that is unnecessarily large to accommodate other keyboards, down to the frosted area above the arrow keys.  The frosted area is one of many reasons why I didn't do my acrylic cases in clear acrylic.  As I mentioned earlier in my acrylic case posts, the soldering points on the back of the PCB will scratch up the inside of the acrylic case, and you can see the scratches from the outside.

Good luck with your sale.

If it's acrylic and you've got a oxy acetylene welder, you could sort that out ;)

I'm tempted, but lots of acrylic and tools collected now to do my own phantom case.  I'll regret not getting in on this when I'm missing fingers and covered in bandages and looking at a botched case.

This is extremely interesting, but I have a couple questions.
How well do the magnets keep the case together?
And how well does the case sit on smooth surface? Does it slide around easily?

I mean problems that people only find out after receiving the keyboard; small misalignments, case not fitting correctly.

Thanks for the tip fossala, MKC gave me another choice as the Total Clear Version. :)

Thanks litster! Yeah that's what I was told from MKC about the Filco controller thing. It's kinda larger than the other keyboards'. MKC made that area about 1.5 mm thiner than the others.

Maybe we can do something about the PCB sratches thing. Like using a large piece of rubber on the base. (i.e the rubber used on TypeNow Solid to protect the PCB)

[ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] 47066 [ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] 47067

Just got the answer from MKC, he said I don't need to worry about the scratch thing since the PCB fits on the base just right, the PCB would not be able to move in the frame.

DIY is always a lot of fun. :) but just not really for some lazy guys like me.

The magnets keep the case together pretty tightly and strongly.

It would not slide around, because there're some pieces of rubber under the base in order to avoide sliding.
