Is this supposed to happen?
« on: Fri, 15 June 2012, 18:37:59 »
Hey guys.

I've had my QPAD MK-85 mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX Red switches for a few days (my very first Mech keyboard) - I had no 'problems' the first 2 days, and everything went fine, until my spacebar started saying some pretty annoying squeaking sounds, so I lifted up the spacebar with my key-remover, popped it back on, and the annoying sound disappeared. BUT!
Now when I push a little bit from the "front" on the right side of the spacebar, it kinda moves upwards, but when I do it on the left side of the spacebar it doesn't move. I have no idea if this also happened before I lifted up the spacebar, since I really can't remember it, sooo.. Do you guys know if it's normal that the spacebar(s) does things like that, if no, is there anyway I can fix it? Not that it's a pain in the A for me, but I want my keyboard to be 100 % fine :P

Sorry for my bad english, I'm from Denmark. :D

I'm not as well rehearsed as others still recognizing myself as a noob............., but sounds like your stabilizers popped off. I know there is a link on here somewhere to remedy that.

As it seems to me, my stabilizers is just fine. And I don't think the right side is supposed to be more loose than the left side, that would be strange..

Well, I just filmed it (not the stabilizers), so you guys know exactly what I mean. You can hear that when I 'push' the spacebar to the left side it has a dark / deep sound, and that sound just gets lighter and lighter as I go to the right. I don't know if you can see it so clearly, but when I push the left side of the spacebar, it moves the whole spacebar upwards if you know what I mean, but to the right, it just moves the right, and into the middle where the Cherry MX red switch is placed. :P

Do these use Costar or Cherry stabilizers?  You would pop the key off and check the stabs.

With a cherry stabilizer you could pull out the  stabilizer and replace it, but I don't know where you'd get a replacement. I'll be parting up a G80 sometime soon though, and will save them.
Got a smaller board with white ALPS, Montereys, Cherry Blues, Reds, or Clears you'd like to offload?  Shoot me a PM. Looking for a grey Leopold FC700R in particular.

Wyse buy colors were GSY for the dark grey, GBA for the light grey, and BBI for the fonts.

I've found a site that sells Cherry MX stabilizer springs, so as soon as possible, I'll order one or two of those, replace the stabilizer in the spacebar, and see if that will fix it. :D

I've twisted them before.  They are not difficult to straighten.  If you are thinking of replacing it anyway, maybe pop it out and give it a once over.

I got it sorted. My stabilizer had bent a bit, so I straightened it, and installed the spacebar again.
Thank you for all the answers, I was very close to RMA my keyboard, but that would be a shame, cause then I would have to live without my lovely new mech keyboard for about a week or so.

I'm glad it worked out with you. You'll notice some GH'ers have multiple keyboards. I have spares for just such an eventuality. That's why I wont to get my model F working, so I can bolt-mod my unicomp without having to give up that excellent Buckling Spring keyfeel.

I got it fixed, but now it happens again.. Well that wouldn't be that hard to fix, but then I noticed that the "0" button on the numpad was totally stuck. So i'll RMA the keyboard within a few days, and when I get the money that it costed me, I'll buy the Filco MJ2 with brown switches :P
