2 sets on order here :)

i know a bunch of people were waiting for them to come back in, so order away. also, if the shipping costs seem high, shoot support an email; they'll fix you up if all you want is the RGB set.

They actually issued me a refund for the extra shipping that I paid for, without a word from me.  I was impressed. Most companies I've dealt with would just pocket the extra.

Was going to order but $13.00+ for shipping...............I don't think so. Been waiting as well, but that is crazy. I'll wait to see what happens if we can get them to do a "red alert."

If they come off some shipping I could be swayed- maybe I should check?

ya-ya...........thanks- I sent an email to see there is a cheaper way:>}

I know its in a different post, but am still hopeful we can get enough people on-board for a red alert or something similar; how cool would that be!

Thanks for following up

I emailed them at the end of the day (east coast) so I will not know until tomorrow, but I would think between $2.00 and $4.00/US should be the norm?

As soon as I find out I will post......don't wait to long as they normally go fairly quick

Got mine quickly via USPS, despite their shipping email saying ups.  Caps look good.  Alt and control keys are two piece.  I pulled one of them apart on accident, looked like the underside piece had been molded using scrap plastic as it was all swirly with black and white plastic.  Actually looked cool :p otherwise. Kerning, alignment, font, and quality of the dye sub legends are all fantastic.  Shining example of what to expect from key caps.  Very satisfied.  Glad I ordered two.  Forgot I had a model f as well or I would have grabbed 3 :p

Really? How's that? When I wanted to negotiate a rew alert set they wanted some $700 just for starters.

Mkawa send some PDFs describing the idea, and I guess they saw a nice buiseness opportunity since it looks great, and decided to do everything themself I suppose.

Oh, and they are also doing blue.

Yeah I know about the blue set, they offered it to us back then already.

TBH, this isn't really the "Red Alert" set. In reality it's just the standard IBM set with red or blue print. That means text modifiers. And as much as I want to give unicomp props for doing this, I just don't see it being that big of a deal. To me, it just isn't really in the spirit of the "Red Alert" set. Just my 2c, now that I have had significant time to think about it. Of course, I still plan on getting 2 sets, but I don't expect them to be Red Alert. They will be Red IBM. I think we should stop calling it Red Alert until a custom legend is made.

the original red alert MX was in SP's Wyse font, and the topre prototype that kicked it off was in topre's standard font. tbh the only commonality between the things we've been calling red alert is red text on classic beige/grey keys. that is something they're delivering, and it's hugely cool of them to do it (especially for no cost or minimum order!).

I'm pretty sure the red alert MX had custom legends.

I'm pretty sure the red alert MX had custom legends.

It did. For instance, the 0 text modifier keys. And the round 2 MX buy was not identical for whatever IP reason seems best. The topre buy hasn't even officially been done yet, so verdict is still out on that. To most people it seems what made Red Alert "Red Alert" was that it had the red on grey modifiers and the sexy white on red numrow. Unicomp isn't delivering the latter, and the former doesn't have the custom legends.

I don't mean to say that what Unicomp is doing isn't cool, it's just not novel either. Either way I'm in for two sets, as before, I just don't want people to get confused based on the GB page which has the original RA legends and white on red numrow, none of which are actually going to be produced.

you can't dyesub white on red keys. unicomp literally can't manufacture that, since they can only do dyesub. what they will be able to do is black on red or blue on red. also, to be pedantic, the red numrow was only part of the red alert add-on kit. standard re-alert is corner set SP wyse with custom modifier legends, red text on beige/grey.

i've asked about the modifier legends, as i really like no-text modifiers. also, hashbaz's mockups have a black on red numrow (the third image). it doesn't look bad at all, and unicomp says they will be able to do that in a single cap order (which is super duper awesome)

as for red alert not being novel; yah, it's not, but it's cool regardless. ;)

I'll be ordering a unicomp keyboard once these keys come out, hopefully I don't have to buy one with the OEM keys but with a set of red-alerts pre-installed or even not installed but that I have to install
