tl;dr Is it possible to remap keys on an external numpad to hotkeys (or media keys), while numpad on full-size keyboard stays unaffected (i.e. still works as a numpad)? Do you have any experience with it? (On MS Windows.)
Whole story: My dad had some issues with his wrists and elbows. I gave him a Microsoft Natural Keyboard I didn't use anymore, and it helped him a lot. However, he's recently complained that he's had hard time pressing some awful hotkeys (most of them are supposedly much worse than Ctrl+Alt+Shift+P).
I guess it should be possible to get an external numeric keyboard, and remap its keys to desired hotkeys, while numpad on the main keyboard would still work as a numpad. I can do this on GNU/Linux with Pystromo
in ten seconds flat. It would be nice if AutoHotKey could do this, but it seems it can't. The only suitable software I've found is HID Macros
. It still has at least one downside, it can't handle different mappings for different windows… and it's quite complicated. Are there any alternatives?
