Pac Man Set

I've seen a Pac Man set mentioned a few times as an idea, so I made one up real quick.

Yeah there was an imsto group buy previously. Sadly, the whole thing fell apart at the end.

Would definitely like to get a PAC MAN set someday.

I always imagined it as some set, on different rows so you can arrange it to look just like the game. So you would have a PacMan, the ghosts, the fruits, and a bunch of keys with just the dots. I know most people don't use numpad, but it would be ideal for a small set.

Now you just need to add the dark blue scared ghost, and a backspace key with Pac Man facing the other way eating some dots.

I NEED me a Pac Man number row!

Yes! Love the idea of a set with each character/dot on a separate key that can be arranged. Refer to my post in the Keycap Ideas thread below:

What about Pac-Man themed caps? I suggested this on Matt3o's thread with regards to Winkeys, and he produced a mock-up that included this layout: Pac-Man on the left Winkey, Pac-Dots going along the Space Bar, Ghost on the right Winkey.

Other possible layouts could be on the number row (with a single Pac-Dot/Ghost on each key) or the function row (with a Pac-Man Esc key).

Come to think of it, why has no-one made a Pac-Man Esc key? I think it would look awesome as a doubleshot yellow on black or yellow on dark blue.

Show Image

Now you just need to add the dark blue scared ghost, and a backspace key with Pac Man facing the other way eating some dots.

I NEED me a Pac Man number row!

Also a standalone backspace key would be cool too! Either one with Pac-Man eating just dots, or maybe one with Pac-Man, 2 or 3 dots, then a ghost.

Also, what do people think about using non-pixelated versions of the characters instead?

I intentionally didn't make a back space key because I wanted to see what ideas people had for one. I too thought it'd be cool as a larger lay out; I thought making the back space the end corner and then having them start to go down the side and around the board after that would be neat too. But I know most people wouldn't be in to it and it would just increase the price.

I used the original game's art work because that's what I think of when I think of Pac Man, but it could be done differently. I also used white instead of black so they could be dye subbed; that way we can actually have more than one color to each character. Also the pellets could be yellow if people prefer that over the original color.

If we do expand out to make a larger set, or if people want another Pac Man on the backspace, might I suggest using Ms. Pac Man instead for better flow.  ;D

Yeah the pixel versions still look pretty good. :) And I thought that would be your reason for using white. I guess the ghosts on black wouldn't really work if we tried to change the design a bit to work as a doubleshot on black, which is a shame.

I would so much rather have them on all 4 row profiles so you could spread them around like a game level or something. It would be way more interesting looking than packing them all together.
I think I would also much prefer them in the style of the more recent versions that the ultra pixel original... yeah I'm a heretic...

I started working on some images for a Pacman Keyset the other day. so I already have vectors for the 4 normal ghosts, the blue/white ghost, and I was thinking of using the Pacman that jeroplane posted. And I haven't made the dots yet, but that would be easy. Also what I had worked on, the ghosts were still 8 bit, and I was expecting the whole thing to be doubleshot on black, but I realize now that would be a problem with the Background, Ghost, Eyes, and Eye Color.

The biggest reason I didn't post any kind of IC, is copyright problems.

This was my first set of mockups, I think they came out pretty good.

I'd prefer the double-dot like in the OP, i Just also mocked up a single dot, just to see what it would look like.

I‘d make the pac-mans on white keys.    should be in a 12 keys a set.  I do need the vector files.

Could you do like what was suggested earlier, take a white key and dyesub the sides black? I'll gladly hand off what I have, I would just want to make sure that people are happy with my colors and the whole 8-bit everything except pacman.

Well, you can, just won't be able to see a thing! Either it will need to be done for white background, or only other alternative would be pad print. Though I doubt many would want to do it as such to have it on black keys.
The all over print not ready to try to do production with that technique yet I don't think.

TBH, I think the white background just doesn't look right. Maybe this set just has to wait for the right technology.

Or... is it possible to dye-sub colours onto white-on-black doubleshot keys?

Dunno. If it is possible, I guess it would cost as much as a doubleshot + a dyesub, maybe more. It would be a pain - well, an extra step anyway - to match the right 'blanks' with the right images.
