[IC] Phantom PCB
« on: Fri, 14 December 2012, 11:39:40 »
We've gotten a go-ahead to use the Phantom PCB designs to run a GB.
We'll only be running just the PCBs, no controllers/switches/plates/diodes.
Switches and diodes are fairly common to find/source, and teensy controllers can be bought from  PJRC electronics: http://www.pjrc.com/teensy/index.html

Pricing is yet to be announced until I hear back from pcbwing, until then, the original GB ended up being $35.

Here are reference threads to info about the plate:

If I could find a good case, this would quell my urge to get a tkl korean board, I think.

That urge doesn't die after it starts ;)

Question, are these PCB's going to be exactly the same as the ones from the original Phantom GB?

Any potential add on to this GB for cases?

But this is equally exclusive.  And I can read the instructions and I don't have to know a korean to get one ordered or get stupid lucky like I did with my mxmini and 356mini...

Just need a good case for these.  Wonder if treble would do it once he's running at capacity again.

I have one, but interested in another PCB. Can it be slightly modified to accept SMD diodes and controller? Without a daughterboard controller, it's easier to design future cases to fit.

And also, this PCB fits all layouts listed in the google doc so why do we need to choose which layout option?

Yes, exactly the same.

Can it be slightly modified to accept SMD diodes and controller? Without a daughterboard controller, it's easier to design future cases to fit.

It could, yes, and I've talked with bpiphany about just those options (plus holes for PCB mounted switches and stabilizers). He is (inactively) working on a 2.0 revision, but we have nothing but the original at the moment.

It may not be the worst thing in the world to coordinate with beast or someone to smoosh plates into this GB as well.  Also, I think oneproduct is working on an aluminum/acrylic case that would work as well.

Hey, would anyone be kind enough to tell me how much the whole endeavor would cost? (or in what balllpark it runs in) before i put my finger in the gear :S

from what i understand
pcb 35
plate 15-35 (based off GB from boostbeast and whitefire
Case =??? (i saw some made in aluminum that were like 300+ but thats a bit out of my budget range)
keys = 40-50? @ around .4 per key or something like that

and then you would need keycaps ofc...am i missing anything else?

edit: sorry for name mistake :S

I didn't do a plate GB sir. l

You also need to ad $16 for the teensy 2.0. You'll need a filco case. not sure if the PLU cases will work

 1 PCB (includes 2 white LEDs and2 resistors) - $35
 1 Plate - $25
 1 Teensy (includes 1 40-pin pin header) - $16
 100 switches - $65ish (I think that's what I paid to get them from 7bit)
 100 diodes - $4
 4 2x stabilizers for ANSI or 3 2x stabilizers for ISO or 0 for PH7BIT - (??)
 1 7x or 1 6.25x stabilizer set for spacebar or 0 for PH7BIT - (??)
1 case - Depends on what you go with or can find.  There are acrylic cases that would work starting at $40ish, or you could try and find another filco case.

I would think, all said and done to plan for $300 before caps.
