Need a Little help with first build
« on: Sat, 16 February 2013, 00:04:18 »
Ok I have decided on a layout.  I am wanting to build a Phantom.  But I need a little help with locating some of the parts and need to know if I am missing anything.  Here is what I have come up with so far.

Diodes Manufacturer part number 1N4148 website to order from www.mouser.com

Keyswitches MX Clears Part number MX1A-C1NN from mouser site as well  Would like to mod these into Ergo Clears so if anyone knows where to get some springs for this without having to buy another complete set of switches that would be great.

For the case I was going to build my own based around one of the ones found here at deskthority.  http://deskthority.net/keyboards-f2/case-discussions-t4530.html  If someone here frequents that site and could possibly locate some dimensions on hole locations for the keys in the top plate and locations for holes in the plate that would be wonderful.   The dimensions for the outside of the case would be nice as well but they will probably be getting modified as well to make a touch of room for a couple other mods I have planned for this.

Still trying to find somewhere to purchase a Phantom board with Teensy controller and firmware that allows key mapping at the firmware/hardware level and would let me map media keys.  Planned layout for key placement and key sizes for bottom row would match my Das Keyboard.  A touch of info on this would be awesome.  Correct me if I am wrong but I believe it is would be the Phantom ANSI 1.25x layout.  If there really isn't anywhere to purchase an already printed board with the controller on it would it be possible for me to get the necessary files for me to order one from a PCB manufacturer?

USB Cable would be needed but I don't see that being a problem to locate.  Any specific details I need to know for this project?

With the plate according to Cherry's website they say a +-.002 inch tolerance on the size of the hole.  How detrimental would it be to the project if I was only able to get down to +-.005 inch?

Any help would be very much appreaciated.

You can get some diodes on eBay or Amazon as well, I believe you can save some money that way, but if you're already ordering components from mouser anyway, you might as well. Make sure to get extra just in case (for later projects or whatever. Diodes are cheap)

You can get good korean springs from sherryton. I recommend 62g or 65g (this number represents bottom out force, not actuation force, light cherry springs (reds, brown, etc) are 60g using this method)

I used a small flathead screwdriver to open my clears for when I made ergo-clears on my phantom. It took a while, but I eventually got it done. Look out for "real" cherry keyswitch opening tools, though.

For my phantom, I am currently using two pieces of cardboard that I cut holes for the teensy and cable. It's working great, but I need a real case eventually.

I don't know about the rest, and will let more knowledgeable GH'ers chime in.

I can help out with the springs. I have some extra red/brown/blue springs I want to get rid of

As for those tools, I'm doing a round 2, but I'm not sure when
