The aesthetics for sure are a big part of why it won't become so popular. I would also prefer it much more if it looked like a slimline version of G80-3000 with a straight across case body. But it is a big improvement over the older models as they went with all standard switch positions so there are no keys with funny stem placement so you can actually replace the stock keycap, it has good features and supposedly much improved build quality overall. If they made it at say a $60 price point it might have some chance but there is much competition from CM, Keycool, HPE, Ducky, etc. in the $60-75 tier already. I think it will be more like $90 though so I think it has not a lot of chances.
I really like Cherry G80 line, but they stagnated for way too long and let quality drop and have done way too little too late.
