Cherry MX-Board 3.0
« on: Tue, 19 February 2013, 16:51:08 »
Is the Cherry MX-Board 3.0 out yet? I read about it in Cherry's PDF catalogue and it sounds quite nice. Windows keys can be disabled, useful for gaming. "Integrated metal plate and extensive anti-slip protection", detachable cable, has 4 extra keys in addition to the normal 104/105, N-key rollover (Cherry say up to 14 keys can be pressed simultaneously).

I believe that low profile keys version works with USB 3.0

G80-3850 is not yet available. I don't think it will be very popular either in spite of the improvements over its predecessor 3800.

Other than the overall cheapness, I actually like the board. I would buy one if it doesn't have the stupid hump in the middle and the numpad.

The aesthetics for sure are a big part of why it won't become so popular. I would also prefer it much more if it looked like a slimline version of G80-3000 with a straight across case body. But it is a big improvement over the older models as they went with all standard switch positions so there are no keys with funny stem placement so you can actually replace the stock keycap, it has good features and supposedly much improved build quality overall. If they made it at say a $60 price point it might have some chance but there is much competition from CM, Keycool, HPE, Ducky, etc. in the $60-75 tier already. I think it will be more like $90 though so I think it has not a lot of chances.
I really like Cherry G80 line, but they stagnated for way too long and let quality drop and have done way too little too late.
