I think people want gold springs because of its rarity more than anything. I admit gold looks prettier.
There's no functional benefit besides it being bling gold though. It adds resistance so 62g gold springs is closer to 65~67g "regular" springs. Supposedly they were carefully selected to have smaller margin of difference in weight but I can't confirm this. And I highly doubt anyone can tell the difference between gold plated and non-gold springs with same actual weight.
What truly affects feel is the overall length, number of coils and material. While pressing on them will feel similar, depending on the length and number of coils you will notice a difference in the resistance curve. I don't know how to word it better but this subtle difference is why I can't say which 55g is better for example.
Also as far as I know the L, M...etc labeled springs group buy creator is the same guy who did gold plated springs.
