Model M Keycaps model
« on: Sat, 16 March 2013, 18:22:16 »
Dear GH,

I recently found a model m in good condition in the trash and took it home. Cleaned it up and it works like a charm.
Only problem is, it's missing about ten keycaps.

Now, I know someone with a 3D printer willing to try printing some keycaps, but I'm missing a 3D model file.

I've been looking all over the internet and this forum but I haven't found anything yet, but I guess some of you have at least come in contact with one or can tell me where to find one?

Thanks,

Majorm

Yeah, only problem is I live in belgium and keycaps mostly only ship from the usa, and that's about 50 bucks shipping...

Have someone proxy them to you from Unicomp. (If no-one else volunteers, I'll do it)

EDIT: Actually since I might be going to black blanks I'll have 2 brand new printed sets. EDIT2: The numpad "+" and "Enter" have stabilizers, so you may have to get a Unicomp set anyway.

Reaper "frelled" me... Twice... Did he "frell" you too?... *brohug*
I'm camping for a week, and moving twice in a month. I'll get back to you when I can (If I don't then just send me another PM).

You can also get extra old stock keys from clickykeyboards.com.  Not sure if shipping would be any better.

So in theory, how much would it cost me to buy a unicomp set/one of yours and have you ship it to me?
I have the enter and + keys, with stabilizers, that's no problem!

Is it with Belgian AZERTY-layout (French language), like this ? :
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/41/Belgian_pc_keyboard.svg

Depending on what caps are missing,
it may be very difficult for you to find them anywhere else than in Belgium,
from another old Model M .
Also, there is a slight visual difference between UNICOMP/IBM-legends that may annoy you over time .

Because Unicomp are a business, and it shows on the parcel, the shipment will most likely be customs-processed
and subject to Import Sales-tax and whatnot,  that happened to my last shipment and it nearly doubled the price !
So, having a friend in America send you a present is a great gift !

(Have you tried asking on Deskthority ? IIRC, international shipping from Unicomp costs the same if you buy 1 or 10 sets ,
so a small groupbuy would save a lot on shipping . )

It is indeed an azerty model, some keys like the one in the upper left being non-existent elsewhere, but that's about the only special key I'm missing.
That's why my original thought was trying to print some, this being a lot cheaper, but I haven't found a decent model file yet...

I'll go have a look on deskthority then, to see if anything pops up.

For good measure the ones I'm missing are:
-R, I, O, B, N
-Esc, F5, F10, Pause/Break
-(1x) Alt, (1x) Ctrl, Tab
-That one key at the top left with the mathematical powers
