Dustin, you're such a tease.

 ;)

That arrow clusters made the HHKB JP very very attractive to me too. How does it sound and feel? Just like hhkb 2?

Yeah I love it! Sounds and feels the same to me.  :thumb:

That arrow clusters made the HHKB JP very very attractive to me too. How does it sound and feel? Just like hhkb 2?

The jp version has a different stagger on the bottom row than a normal keyboard. So you kind have to try one in person to see if this bothers you.
That's pretty much the only reason I got a regular HHKB.

But looking at these pictures and falling in love with Topre way more than I thought I would,  I think I'm definitely going to have to pick up a JP one the next time I'm in Japan.
It's just too sexy.

Btw, where does one get those beautiful blank colored caps that Vesper has?

Stagger? What do you mean?

Yeah, I love the JP! :) So worth the wait!

Classifieds only Im afriad.

The bottom alpha row is shifted to the left. The gaps are much closer to lining up as opposed to being towards the middle of the key. Compare it side by side with another kb.

Damn guess I need to do more hunting. Probably easier just to buy a novatouch for the stems.
Hmmm I wonder if the stems from that fake topre board would work.

Ohhhh.. Wow man, That's very interesting. Actually it looks cool. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd alpha rows are the same distance. Cool..

Does those additional mod serve any purpose? I mean, is there DIP switch to map them as space bar for example? Or they are totally useless for non Jp writing?

This 23UB theme is dedicated to Rowdy - King of Yellow:
It doesn't have a lot of yellow, but I thought it was simple and nice.

This spacebar is dedicated to demik (as are all my spacebars on every keyboard):

The DIP switch can set the curser (arrow) keys to additional mods and r-shift, but the Jp keys are pretty much useless for non Jp writing. Maybe with a keymapper software they can? http://www.pfu.fujitsu.com/hhkeyboard/leaflet/hhkb_backview.html

I did Dip Switch #2 which swaps Left Control to Caps Lock and Left Function to Left Control. Love that setup.

Bottom Row:

Control, `, Windows, Alt, (Nothing), Space, (Nothing), (Nothing), Alt, Function, Left; Down; and Right Arrow Keys.

Hasu has a controller, Id LOVE to get my hands on one.

I'm using hasu's controller. It's so nice, just plug and play

Will also be using the tmk firmware with the duck viper when it arrives. Gonna make some ergo clears, but I don't think they will end up as smooth as topre switches :(

Are there any constraints to using hasu's controller?   Full key control or are some still not changeable?  Number of layers?

Good luck with it! I would recommend soldering the teensy to one of these:

That way you can just unplug the default controller and plug in your teensy without destroying anything :)

Very nice layout!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Can you not plug one into the hub on the other?   I've heard quite a few complaints about the hub, but I would have assumed it could handle that, no?

I like the usb hub too.

The weird thing is my HHKB doesn't work when it's plugged in through my Belkin USB hub that all my other keyboards are plugged into.
It works fine if I plug it in through my Steel Series 7G, but not through the Belkin hub. Pretty annoying.

Probably because of all the extra keys on that bottom row and the tiny spacebar.  That's my reasoning, anyways.

The DIP switch can set the curser (arrow) keys to additional mods and r-shift, but the Jp keys are pretty much useless for non Jp writing. Maybe with a keymapper software they can?

It was my concern before buying one: I think the main point why non-japanese people do buy the HHKB Pro JP is precisely because they want to use these keys left and right of the (tiny) space bar as modifiers (at least that's why I wanted to buy one: so that, thanks to the tiny spacebar, I could reach the keys at the left and right of the spacebar without distorting my thumbs too much).

So before buying one I asked here on GH if someone had already remapped the "japanese" keys of an HHKB Pro JP to act as alt / super / hyper / you-name-it and nobody answered... But I figured out that it would very probably work so I had one sent to me from Japan.

And I can tell you that remapping worked like a charm  :thumb:

I don't care about what's written on the keys: I started with a US layout and simply checked which key is sending which keycode and configured my system accordingly. For example the key physically at the left of the spacebar is ALT and I configured the key at the left of that key to be the "Super" modifier.

I'm working exclusively on Linux and remapping on Linux is easy... I take it it would work on Windows on OS X too !?

Oh nice! Good to know those keys can be re-purposed easily.

Does anyone know if they ever released a JP HHKB with blank key caps?
That would be my ideal HHKB.

No they did not, but just swap the keyset. Just like I had to use 2 different keysets then what came with my board to get my layout of US ISO JP (not sure how id say it?) lol

Ahh that's too bad, luckily it's still easy to get the blank white hhkb key cap sets though. $80 is not that bad either... if only colored ones weren't so rare  :(
