O-Rings reduce the travel and compress the domes too much. Therefore the switches feel muddy and not crisp anymore.
This is how you do it right: http://deskthority.net/workshop-f7/happy-hacking-silencing-aka-ghetto-s-t7056.html?hilit=Ghetto)
I've replaced the thin silicone sheet with foam for even better results: http://deskthority.net/workshop-f7/topre-silencing-2-0-looking-for-verry-thin-foam-sheet-t7871.html?hilit=Ghetto

I concider the rubberband mod as inadequate for topre switches.

I agree that the dental band mods are an unacceptable way to silence a Topre switch as I have said in many threads about the subject. I have tried making washers from the same 0.5mm silicone sheet from the U.K. as you with the same results, quieter than a standard HHKB but not a Type S. I have found using a material called Dycem™ that is 0.021in worked well silencing the upstoke without changing the Topre feel. The washer cutter and silencing  rings that I made can be seen in a earlier post. http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=40658.msg1234820#msg1234820 I am satisfied with the results and did my RF 87ub 55g as well, the feel is the same as unmodified but the upstroke is silenced. I may try some other material including a foam in the future but I'm happy with results I have gotten with this method.

I think I may be the only one who is the opposite of yall. I like Dental Bands, did it to all my boards in the past. I had the Realforce Silent Purple Sliders in my HHKB and I think their too tall. But I love low profile everything so makes sense.  :p

I don't know if the HHKB Type S sliders are as tall as the RF Silent Purple but I also like low profile as-well but with Topre the tactile feel seems at the top and with dental bands you lose some stroke from the top. I like the black HHKB but I didn't want to get a white HHKB Type S just for the sliders and rings to silence mine plus the cost of it.

I loved the sound but dental bands changed the feel too much for me.

I contacted a company in China that can make 0.5mm foam disks.
Moq was 500 at $50... cheaper if you buy more of course.

I was going to grab these and try them out but when I returned my HHKB to stock I realized that I actually don't mind the way it sounds at all.
Although I love the soft rain like thuds when it was modded, I think the stock HHKB sounds pretty good too.

Hmmm wonder if I should bother doing it to my Novatouch...

This is exactly how I feel, love low profile usually but reducing the travel distance on HHKB (haven't tried modding other Topre boards) looses some of that tactility from the top of the stroke and I find myself just moving from my JP that I silenced back to regular HHKB or Type-S. That's an ironed soft landing pads mod though which I assume is even more reduction than dental bands. I love how quiet it sounds and it does feel great to type on, but it just looses too much of the tactility. The last mod to try for me is lubed stock HHKB, hopefully that will retain more tactility and be close to/as silent as the Type-S.

The transformation would be awesome~ HHKB Heathen evolving to HHKB Klaxon.

One should never put standard thin SP on an HHKB. NEVER! Even though, I would be interested to put SA on there :P I think the thock would be further accentuated by the larger empty volume of the cap.

I've seen your silencing thread and must admit that it is awesome! I still have the silicone rings in my pro2 and it is okay but compared to my pro1 with foam dampering it is not pleasing. Can you tell me what kind of material that Dycem is? Is it dense or more like a fluffy foam material?
I've got a good hint to try out the dampering sponge for table tennis bats! You can buy verry thin foams (0,5mm and less). But if the dycem is fluffy, I will definately give it a try!

Awesome. Just reeks of awesome.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Indeed it is. I'm currently in the process of learning the layout without having to look at my cheat sheet so I can't say too much about it. But so far it's been an enjoyable experience typing on it.

Yeah, memorizing the FN layer seems to be the trickiest part of it all. But I'm sure I'll get the hang of it soon.
