Weird thing that keeps happening with my computer.
« on: Mon, 07 October 2013, 01:41:56 »
well, iv had this strange problem thing thats been happening lately and idk what is causing it. Whenever i right click something, highlight one of the choices and click it, the highlighted part just stays there. It only happens the first time. Sometimes it goes away after a while, sometimes it doesn't go away till i restart my pc.

I have no idea why this is happening, and i don't know how to try and google it for a fix lol, which is what i would normally do. You all seem like nice, smart, tech savvy people, any ideas?

here is a screen shot of what it looks like: http://imgur.com/EwGnFo4

ps. it just started randomly about 2-3 days ago. and i dont think i have installed any new software since then.

Could be your computer thinks your shift key is being held down.  A faulty keyboard controller or stuck key can cause this.

Use Aqua's KeyTest to check if keys are registering when you're not pressing them:

One thing to do is press the modifiers in conjunction with many other keys to test the key rollover.  Sometimes controller faults will make modifier keys stick when you do this.

Your mouse could be double clicking occasionally instead of single clicking (debris, driver problem, hardware problem).

You can test it for doubleclicking here:

Oh, I misunderstood your problem.  I thought the problem was that things were randomly getting highlighted when you'd click them.  It's 4 am here :P

Try going into Performance Options -> Visual Effects  and disable "Fade out menu items after clicking".

If that doesn't work, you can also try unchecking "Fade or Slide Menus into view" and "Fade or Slide ToolTips into view".

You can get to Visual Effects section like this:
1. Right Click on My Computer
2. Select Properties
3. Click on Advanced Tab
4. Click on Setting for the Performance Section
5. Click on Custom
