He probably had to cover some expensive shipping charges to get the board to where he is, and possible re anodizing costs as well.

375 kmac
60-100 switches, modding, assembly (hard to tell if stickered from that pic)
30-60? reanodizing
50-100 shipping to him

Everything almost at cost.... just that being INT makes it much more expensive

Dear god I want this keyboard! To bad it would cost me close to my entire vacation savings or every other keyboard I have.

Let me know if you are willing to trade anything. I've got a lot of switches, caps, and keyboards....including a 91 IBM SSK, Klaxon DS Set, and a CCnG on it's way.

Sorry if this is inappropriate, but why does this cost 600+50 shipping?

Don't KMAC's usualy go for 450-500 + Shipping? What's special about this one?

Plus I'm at a loss as to why people should reimburse him for his own shipping? If everyone did that the price of keyboards would rise indefinitely.

Perhaps the original sale, but Sherry sold some later that were closer to $400.  (I bought one.)  At least in my case, I ended up (stupidly) spending close to $900 on mine.  Of course, that included some (unpleasant) assembly service, reanodized case, etc.  Point is, it's hard to judge exactly what someone may have paid for their kmac.  A mostly-stock one is much cheaper than a pimped out re-anodized one.

Just a little defense for the pricing.  In the end though, it's worth what someone is willing to pay.  Looks like a great board.  In hindsight I wish something like this was available when I was looking to build... would have save a lot of money, hassle, and time.

Well, TheProf did it.  It took a VERY long time, lots of hassle, etc... but the keys all stick and everything, even after a lot of use. (Well, not a *whole* lot, because it's probably my least favorite board to type on.)  I think overlubed based on a few switches I desoldered.  (Didn't help I have light korean springs... but nothing that others haven't done lots of times.)

It is irrelevant what you paid for it.  You can try to sell it for that but if that was the case, as someone pointed out, the prices would only go up.

You have to expect to take a loss..especially if you do mods that are not adding a lot of value...

If you don't take a loss, more power to you...

My best guess is around 5 pounds and the clears normally have 55 gram springs (so heavier).

Clears have 55g actuation force, these are 62g bottom out force. It's 2g heavier than a red/brown/blue spring, thus much lighter.

Also I've wanted that KMAC for a long time, but not the greatest price. glws

Hum, I feel the stock clears are a little too heavy for me, though I still use it at work everyday.

Would lubing makes any difference in terms of force required? or just smoother? I never tried lubed keys before.

However the KMAC plate allows easy switch opening to change the springs without desoldering? changing springs require you to re-apply grease?

Stock plate does NOT allow for easy mod, you'd have to desolder and the kmac le weighs around 3.5 lbs.

I don't see what the problem is, 62g gold is pretty light compared to clears. Other questions have been answered
