Honestly, this is the most excited I've ever been about Clacks. I've always regretted not getting classic Clacks when I had the chance (joined in 2011), but nows my chance!

I am out of town with terrible internet and was afraid I would have no chance at spam email system. Very happy that this is an EK sale  ;D

Seems like a convenient time for me to finally start looking at artisan keycaps, entered all the EK drawings.  Even if I get one of the ones I don't care for so much, trading seems to be the norm with these right?  Not that I should get ahead of myself since I never win anything.

Well I put in for the blue eagle thing as it looks baller as ****! It's the only non-Miami themed thing I've gone after in a long ass time but its just so cool!

Also was there any build up for this? I just got a rude wake up this morning and boom in my inbox was an email from ek...

Agreed, that eagle is really badass.

I don't think there was any buildup or warning.  We were all hoping for it and half-expecting it, but it was still a surprise to me.   :))

Fair enough, I'm subbed to 4grabs but only get emails well after its finished lol so I'm never sure what's going, until it's over

Yep, you kind of have to watch all the threads a bit to see when they're coming.  That gets me thinking, I wonder if there's a way to have something notify you if there are X responses / day to this therapy thread.  It always ramps up activity around sales, so you'd know that something was up.

Another fun fact; Depending on the language there are several ways to write down a date. Most countries use the DMY method.
So in Dutch we would write that same date as "2-11-2014" or "2 November 2014".

AM/PM is confusing as heck to me as well. Then again I never managed to really learn to read time from a clock with arms so 24h digital is my norm.
Not sure in what sense 23:59:59 is an impossible time. I really don't understand that comment. Care to explain?

I didn't get all of mine. I'm not worried. Email isn't the most reliable communication method.

Edit: I'm more worried about the fact that I may have put in the wrong zip code in one of them. I think they are pretty strict about not allowing address changes due to folks gaming the system.

I received all of mine within 5 minutes of submitting.

Check your junk folder, just in case.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

It's just that by that time and date most of the US (and EliteKeyboards) will be back to /standard/ time, so it should say PST. There's no date/time like that in PDT unless there's an area in the Pacific time zone that is always on daylight savings (aka Summer) time. Just a joke really, but it looked funny to me!

Yeah, it's not that common in the states to be able to think in 24 hr time, for most people AM/PM is "easier" cause we grew up with it. I'm more used to 24 hr time since I was a shortwave listener when young...  :D

I have some questions about clacks...

  • How many are made at a time?
  • How many are in circulation today?
  • What are the odds of actually winning the drawing?

It seems like these are highly sought after keycaps... I'm just wondering why I guess  :))

The answer to all three questions - No one has even the slightest idea (except Clack himself).

Interesting.. so... some other stupid questions then...

Are there people who don't win the opportunity to buy a clack then?

Also - I'm assuming these are casted in a mold right? I mean... he doesn't actually make them by hand right?

Yes there are people who never win, it's all up to chance, and we don't know exactly how they are made, we assume a cast with very fine embellishments that keep them up to his high standard, it is also most likely a multi pull cast because of different colors and faces being different color than the body

Each sale, the majority of people who enter are not able to buy a clack. I do not think CC's exact method for making these are known, but he has a FAQ where he somewhat addresses this.

Its extremely likely that the overwhelming majority of people who enter (99%+) will not get the chance to purchase one, unless CC has deviated from the norm and produced hundreds of keys for this round. Since he's only one guy and makes all of these by hand to meet meticulous quality standards I can't imagine that's the case.

We're not entirely sure of CC's production methods but yes, he uses molds of some fashion since all his keys share identical feature dimensions and any little distinctive markings carry over.

It's just that by that time and date most of the US (and EliteKeyboards) will be back to /standard/ time, so it should say PST. There's no date/time like that in PDT unless there's an area in the Pacific time zone that is always on daylight savings (aka Summer) time. Just a joke really, but it looked funny to me!

Yeah, it's not that common in the states to be able to think in 24 hr time, for most people AM/PM is "easier" cause we grew up with it. I'm more used to 24 hr time since I was a shortwave listener when young...  :D
Ah, that actually makes sense. Never imagined it would be a time zone issue. Learned something new today :D

Ok makes sense.. I suppose if they were mass produced they would lose their collector's value. Thanks for the replies.

Diamonds don't lose worth, and they are very common.

Yeah that's not a good analogy. Diamonds themselves are not rare, but they are hoarded by a couple of major players and the supply is strictly controlled to artificially raise the value. Additionally, most of the "value" behind the stone itself other than its properties related to hardness (e.g., making drills with diamonds) are more marketing than reality. There is a good reason that wedding rings do not sell for the astronomical prices you see in stores when being sold second hand.

Interesting.. so... some other stupid questions then...

Are there people who don't win the opportunity to buy a clack then?

Also - I'm assuming these are casted in a mold right? I mean... he doesn't actually make them by hand right?

Actually if you read the EK descriptions it says "Hand carved by hundreds of talented gnomes".

No-one has been able to produce any evidence to the contrary.

Don't think about it. Don't worry about it. Just participate in the sale and let the chips fall where they may. If you participate in enough of them you are bound to get lucky sooner or later.
