Is the QFR top case made of plastic or metal? I am looking to clear coat it after I paint it and there are two different clear coats for the two different types so I'm wondering. And is there anyone there that can suggest what I use and do to paint it? I want it to be a slick and glossy case like the WhiteWidow. I want to spray it white have it last along time. About how much money would I need to spend to get results like this including the $10 for a top case from CM? Also, how do I disassemble and reassemble the case without breaking anything?

It is plastic and nubbinator posted a thread where he highlighted how to open the case.

it's abs with a rubberized coating on it. quite a bit of information in the worklogs forum, which i'm moving this to.

less if you have the sandpaper lying around!

my suggestion would be to pick up 5$ worth of 400 grit norton wetsand (5 sheets). unless the coating is super thick even the 400 grit should make short work of the rubberized stuff, and the finish will be a nice medium between 200 (you'll see scratching) and 600 ("fine grit" for most purposes, although i typically like to go up to 2000+ grit for a serious polished finish)

total.

Thats impossible, my shopping cart is $50 MINIMUM. The paint and sandpaper itself is around 20. Could you send me a compiled list for $10?

Isn't that 5 dollars right there? and then paint, another 5-10. Thats already ten and its not even complete so how would it be less than $10?

Thanks, i've seen that but what level of sandpaper would I need for the black case?

uhm... a trip to any hardware store will get you what you need... my paint was $3.50... are you planning on using auto-grade paint and a HVLP sprayer?

HVLP spayers are the guns they use to paint cars and such, just use regular spray paint, take your time, and it will turn out just fine.
