Can you explain how the streamchat is going to work? I've only ever used the TwitchTV one.

It's basically the same.  You have to "register" an identity (similar to IRC where you don't actually register) and you then chat in a chatbox to the right of the movie.  I think it's more or less the same as Twitch.

The stream (at least when I stream) will be located at http://www.livestream.com/movie_streamer (YoungMichael88 will add this to the OP) and if you go there now you can see the stream chat and you can even chat at the moment to test it out if you'd like.

Do you have the premium account to stream movies at 720p?

I've never had problems with that.  I've had groups of 5 or so of us just spamming during stupid movies with zero issues.  It's possible they've changed it recently though.

No.  You will have to acquire the movie yourself to get high-def.  The point of the stream is to allow many people to view an acceptable stream which makes it really easy to do a group-view.  It is not to start a high-def service.

ok, so are you using a cam software like cam-twist, which captures a section of your screen as a device, and then that goes through to the livestream.com

Livestream has that functionality built in to their streaming software, so I just use that.  But yes it does exactly as you described, it simply crops a portion of the screen to stream.

hmmm

Ok so the live stream thing has a very small chatbox,  to make it bigger, you can detach it, and put it on a secondary monitor with lower resolution so it looks bigger.   I guess this will probably be the best stream service then since the box is detachable.

Also, should we pick a movie that "comes out" on dvd/bray  this week.. instead of one that most of us has already seen, perhaps multiple times?

I think there's a good chance we'll get pacific rim before next friday.

Well my whole idea for this is to share a movie you love with others. I don't want to be the guy who chooses the movie everyone watches. I want everyone involved to be a part of it. BUT as I said, you can change your movie pick at any time so if you can convince others to change to a current movie like pacific rim then the numbers in the draw will be in your favor.

What kind of data flow is this going to use?  I want to try it at work, but have very limited bandwidth.

Also, my vote for the first movie should be the one that the OP wants to share:  The Life Aquatic.  my 2c.

As long as your allocation is > 500MByte, You'd be fine for the whole movie.

I think we're all playing it safe...

I kinda wanted to suggest Real Steel, the robot movie, since I haven't seen it, and it supposedly had good effects... bu..... I'm pretty sure it's to kiddie for all the adult GHers who actually became full adults.

I have never been told what the cutoff is for a flag to be thrown.  I was warned before for watching a 30min Funday Monday in 720p.  Anyone know if I can drop the resolution in the stream to lower my usage?

go up to boss, put foot down, demand raise, not get one, look cool quitting, get called in a day later, meet boss's daughter, she's fat, date her anyway, she becomes skinny and super hawt, becomes attached to you, you lose interest, and on that same friday, you decide to stub her on the date and wtach movies with us instead...

In hollywood movie time, this shouldn't take more than 2 days, but you got 3 days from now to do it.

So the first movie night starts in just under 4 and a half hours from now. I'm at work and can't participate because I'm a fool who doesn't think before accepting overtime. Hopefully everything goes smoothly and people participate and have a good time!

I think you should fix the OP links. You are missing the ":" in http://

:]

That's really weird. When I go to edit the links the ":" is indeed there. Yet I click on it and low and behold it doesn't work!

I wish.  As stated before, I got a warning just for watching a small youtube vid in the corner of my second screen.  This would be a bit more than that.

Okay everyone!  Just wanted to stop by with a little over 2 minutes remaining until go time: I've got everything cued up and ready to go.  I'll be starting the stream exactly as the countdown timer in the OP runs out, and I'll start the movie immediately following.

Please relay any sound or video issues to me in a calm and collected manner.  This is our first movie night here, and there might be unforeseen issues.  We can work through them in a sensible manner.  :)

Anyway, hope everyone enjoys the movie!  It's one of my favourites.
