How come none of the blank tenkeyless sets have row 4?  They all have row 2 instead of row 4...

The printed tenkeyless sets have a row 4...

As 7bit hasn't even started to fill the "single blank keys" sections on the wiki page, you could still be lucky... Tell him what you need, I'd say.

I know right!

Keep in mind that the red is all flat profile, so you can dvorak that up anytime (as long as you are okay with flat) whereas the normal dvorak kit is sculpted profile, like the qwerty will be.

I am sure you can order one from SP, but halvar is right: this will likely be added if there is a need

Does anyone have a good picture of the keyboard runner keys? There is a picture in the R4 thread that shows it partially. Also what's the story with this key? Surely wasn't part of the retro set.

I like that "Leary" but don't worry.  7bit has learned from R4 in what NOT to do.  That is why he's going to finish this GB towards the end of this month.  Then Early next year SP will make it.

Because this GB doesn't have hundreds of choices/colours like what R4 had, hence it'll get made sooner.

By my understanding it may extend if he doesn't hit MOQ (25000 keys)

You never know how each Group Buy goes.  He may get the required MOQ or maybe not.

Shame if it's still around till May 2014  :-\ .  I didn't know that SP raised their amount of orders required to build, I hope they're not imitating GMK/BSP order numbers now?

They would probably have to improve the thickness of their caps to be able to compete if they did that.  Especially since the GMK/BSP group buys have a lot of interest now days...

Not sure if you have seen an SA-profile spherical cap from SP, but they are every bit as thick as caps from GMK/BSP, if not thicker.

That's what those Round 5 caps are, SA. Not DSA or DCS. I don't think you're the only one confused about that.

You are absolutely right.  There is nothing to complain about with the SA line from SP.  I believe that GMK/BSP would be competing with SP DCS/DSA caps.  That is where I think SP would lose out if they tried to increase the MOQ.

For anyone who's confused about the caps, this is a shot of the thicknesses. The caps from left to right? SP DCS (It's a R2 420 Smiley so yes it's DCS, I bought it from TechKeys), GMK Cherry (Olivetti Replica), SP DSA (DSA Retro GeekHack cap), SP SA (R4 Home, from a crap bag). Note how the SA cap is stepped so it's *really* thick.

They are quite tall too.  Does anyone have a height comparison photo between cherry, OEM, DSA and SA profiles?

Yeah yeah give me a second...

Ok, top picture is slightly angled, bottom picture shows heights. Left to right, the caps are:
  • Filco OEM
  • SP DCS
  • GMK
  • Cherry (Cap is from a MY7000 keyboard)
  • SP DSA
  • SP SA

The board is an Epsilon with an angle of 7 degrees I believe.

Great picture, thanks for posting.

From it, it seems that DSA and SA are the least concave (more flat than the others). Is that what you feel when you type on them?

The radius of curvature looks larger for these SA and DSA keycaps than filco OEM and DCS, more importantly, they are spherical rather than cylindrical, so they'll feel different no matter what.

I like sphericals and can't wait to order

So do they feel more flat to you?

My concern is very particular: I just want to know whether, even though they're spherical, the more flat surface allows to slide fingers between keycaps more easily (when compared to cylindrical). If so, I'd assume that that characteristic stands regardless of the direction (because of the circular symmetry), whilst with cylindrical it's much more easy to slide up/down direction than to left/right direction. And that'd be a very nice characteristic to me (unfortunately, I guess Round 5 won't have SA in more slippery material like PBT or POM).

I've been asking for them. 7bit is reluctant, because he never meant to have two competing colorways for full sets. He'd trying to keep from making it as complicated and looooooong as Round 4.

There's already a red TKL and a black TKL. Red return and red cursor kit. Isn't that enough mod kit then?

A lot of new options have gone up there in the past few days, so that could change.  Who knows.  You can build pretty much any setup you want at a pretty reasonable price point IMO.
