To let you know what you are getting for your $14, the Teensy 2.0 with pins sells for $19 plus shipping from PJRC.com. Their base shipping cost is $3.50 or so. The only difference here is that you have to solder on the header pins to the Teensy. Which is very easy to do. So, by soldering your own pins, and ordering in bulk, you will save at least $6 for one piece. Consider each additional unit you order as an additional $5 saved.

How hard is it to solder these together? Is it like SMD work or like soldering switches?

Just like soldering switches. Nothing much to it, really.

I'll pass on this one. Still got a Teensy left over from the last buy, and it'll be awhile before it gets used.

Glad to see more are getting circulated, though!

I've been looking around online and it seems that the ErgoDox only works with teensy 2.0 and not 3.0/3.1, correct? If this is true and I can only use 2.0 I'll be in for one or two, have to confirm with a friend if he wants one.

Just so there is an apples to apples comparison, pjrc does sell the Teensy 2.0 without headers for $16. CONUS shipping for one is ~$3, going up to ~$3.5 for eight. So while you definitely do save with this, the savings are not quite as pronounced as the original post indicates.

$20.60 for one from pjrc; $16.50 from this group buy
$145 for eight from pjrc; $118 for eight from this group buy

Definite thanks to jdcarpe for organizing this, though!

Edit: Missed the headers, updating comparison. This (with headers) is still cheaper than buying from pjrc without headers, by the way.

xmagusx: Yes looked at those numbers. It's a coupla bucks saved, and as (Jefferson? Edison?) said, a penny saved is ... (also you're getting the header pins which are also a couple bucks, so I think it works out to $3 saved if you get just one)

HydroMule: that PCB expressly expects by its pinouts to be given the 2.0 in particular, yes. Same with the phantom.

$131.50 for eight from pjrc; $118 for eight from this group buy

looked at that site and it seems that international orders (Canada) doesn't really make a difference and saves like 50 cents going through pjrc but I don't know if header pins are included. and going with adafruit theirs is $20 and $9.50 shipping I think.  So this ends up being a little cheaper.

alright thanks!

You get a 40-pin set of header pins by ordering from me, so let's do the math, shall we?

From PJRC:
Quote
2    HEADER_20x1   Pins (header), 20 pins, 0.1 inch (2.54 mm) spacing    0.80   1.60
1   TEENSY   Teensy USB Board    16.00   16.00
Subtotal:    17.60
US Mail: 3.03
Total: 20.63

From this GB:
1 Teensy 2.0 w/40-pin header: 14.00 14.00
US Mail: 2.50
Total: 16.50

20.63-16.50= $4.13 saved, and I said $6. Oops. Anything else you want to point out??

For those who can't easily buy it, had you considered offering the chip on the other ErgoDox PCB with each Teensey?

If this doesn't get more orders soon, I'm probably going to cancel the buy. Unless everyone is okay with paying $15.60 each for their Teensys. That's the best price I can do if we don't hit 100 units.

That still saves you $2 per unit versus ordering at retail for the Teensy ($16) and header pins ($1.60), at $17.60.

That's too bad. I was wondering when I would see an invoice come in for this. I would only need two but it's not like that will make a huge difference :/

Put my order in so I can mod my IBM keyboard from serial to USB or PS/2...but I feel so dirty doing so.

What kind of discount could we get if the order was just for 50 rather than the 100 because it isn't looking like we are going to make it.

Price breaks are at 25 and 100 units only. At 25-99 units, I would have to add $1.60 to each Teensy ordered, making them $15.60/ea. I know that doesn't sound different than the $16.00 they cost at retail, but if you add the cost of header pins from PJRC ($0.80/ea x 2=$1.60), you actually save $2.00.

I was hoping we would make 100 units ordered, because I really need Teensys, but I can't afford to buy us up to 100 on my own. :(

Me personally? Or to make up the difference to 100?

I might need a few but when I ordered from the previous teensy GB it turned out to be more expensive than when I ordered from PJRC directly, simply because he charges about half for international shipping. I have to order 4 to make up for it and for me to save anything by entering into this GB. It doesn't make much sense for international orders I am afraid.
