Important update

SP informed me that the skull legend had to be revisited due to double-shot constrains.

Here below the new legend. It's not 100% the skull squadron insignia... but close enough.

Show Image

I like them. I do not see any major deviation from the original.
They're fine. It's no wonder when you see the original:

Makes sense, but couldn't it have at least kept the original outline/features (aside from the fine cracks)  instead of being replaced with something completely generic?

A skull is a skull, isn't it? Don't want to hurt any sensitive Skull Squadron's feelings though. :-X

that is actually what I've done... the X bones are the same as the original. The skull is more simplified but it's not a standard "jolly roger".

Might just be nit-picking, but the change to the jaw-bone and eye-sockets was more so what I was referring to; just gives it a totally different look, imo.

Which has a few distinct features... I understand if some can't be kept because of manufacturing necessities, but to argue with "a skull is a skull" when trying to replicate an insignia is a bit silly.

Especially when you're arguing with Skull_Angel!  :))

Not laughing at you, but it is kinda funny when you think about it. Someone with skull in their name would probably be particular about skulls, right?

Haha, not as much as you'd think, but it is a bit of a play on words of what one of the com. officers called the skull squadron leader in a somewhat poorly dubbed rendition of the macross movie; thought it sounded kind of neat so I stuck with it.  ;D

As I said, I touched a sensitive point of the Skull Squadron memorabilia. I apologize for that, however manufacturability will rule.

All I know is that I am appalled and offended that you would even consider altering a single thing, even an insignia so minor to me that I didn't even see the difference until it was explicitly pointed out.

I will have none of it.

I suggest we scrap the whole thing, and refund everyone their money, as clearly this set is now tainted and should be washed from the face of the earth.

Here, here!

But, seriously I don't understand the initial hostility and sarcasm when a change gets critiqued and inaccuracies are pointed out, considering the content. Mirroring the eye-sockets, widening the jaw and putting a cleft in the chin (or possibly just blunting it) would bring it closer to original if you want my opinion.

My MSPaint skills suck, but didn't take too long to whip this up if you want an example of what I mean.

It all looks good to me, man.
I'm only 7 episodes in, so I have no dog in the fight.

I do wonder how noticeable these changes might be at normal keycap size.
I doubt I'd even see the cleft.

There were some problems with my invoice, but Melissa already contacted me to solve it manually.

I really appreciate how much effort SP is putting into this. Starting with the awesome price to fixing all the little problems pretty quickly.

Edit:

I just realized there is no Elrick "SP is the devil" post on this page of the thread. What happened buddy? Did you lose your passion :p

Did you guys also get this? Kinda came out of nowhere and it was never mentioned that SP uses an external shipping service that I have never heard of...

Yeah, it's no problem, but I was kinda surprised.

I have ordered stuff before from SP and it was sent directly from them.

Hey Guys we are checking mailing address. I promised earlier in this thread, in reply to elricks concerns, that we would do this. This is because there was some problem with selecting the correct state in the beginning.

Ed works for us and is following up on this just to make sure everyone get's their order as promised. If you have any concern's please feel free to shoot me a message. Thanks!

FYI: Now that the state issue is fixed, future orders will not require this step.

Excessive: In relation with the upcoming PBT GB: There are some reports on loose and tight fit with some stems of DSA PBT caps made by SP. Could you please confirm that these issues have been solved? Are the molds for PBT and ABS the same, I supose they are not, but just asking.

While it may be a design characteristic, the loose stems may be a manufacturing defect. That is why I asked.

All the DSA mounts have been modified so that the fit is universal, which should be snug, but not excessively so. In general, yes the molds for PBT and ABS are the same.

Fantastic!

The reasons in your FAQ are completely valid, and interesting to know the abuse that some keyboards can get.

But for the hobbyist this is great news!  Thanks :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
