How would you guys feel about using Cherry brand keys? It would be the newer type ones that are a bit thinner same as what is on current G80 production like these

trade off it's cheaper by $8. If really lucky might be able to finally get some ISO kits but no promise.

I'd rather pay +8$ for the thicker caps.

I agree.

Unless the price is considerably lower (like -50%) I see no reason to even think about thin keycaps.

Well, actually there is no price that is low enough NOT to go for original Cherry thickness ;)

Well, you could use them to offer some keys that are impossible to get otherwise. Like perhaps G80-18** layouts.
Perhaps we could do a test run with them as a small Mini Pack?

Not mini pack, it only come as a whole thing. Basically could get these but as blank so allow to dyesub instead of lasered they usually available.

Have blank black coming PBT in the previous buy... whenever PLUM finish it. Maybe try with some POM later.

Is there any other advantage to it other than the 8$ or that it's "original Cherry"?

I do prefer thick PBT, but I would still be interested in some of these.

I wonder if these would play nicer with Costar stabilizers since they are thinner?

Agreed.  I have Cherry thin PBT on my work keyboard and it's only okay.  Thick ABS and PBT are both better.

If it offers more keys for many type of keyboards then why not?  Only problem because they're thinner walled you might get the PMK problems like what was seen with Granite R1 series.

Deformation is easy and might not be impossible to get rid of.  Having thicker walled keys allows easier dye-sub, like what Imsto provided in his latest BSP sets - they were simply "SUPERB".

I believe Elrick is referring to how some of the Granite R1 caps came out warped.  However I don't think that was solely because they were thin PBT.

Unless Cherry has changed it recently, the mods keys are still thicker from the old molds. Only the 1x keys are the thinner type. imsto have dyesubbed some of these before so I wouldn't anticipate any issues with that at all.
They are cheaper, have stock ready to go (no waiting for keys production, just straight purchase and dyesub) and lower MOQ.

The dyesub aspect has always been low with me at 20 units. If someone comes up with an idea that can get at least that many orders, it's pretty much always been anything goes within the limits of the dyesublimation process available to us.

I like the idea of the modern type without all the other languages on the keycap. I feel it makes them too busy.

Will an ISO kit be an option for any of these or are they likely to be ANSI only for simplicity?

ANSI only again, can't source PBT ISO Cherry profile. No one but Cherry has ISO enter mold, and they won't sell ISO blank kits unless I can buy 10k sets LOL.

Ah I see, would I correct in assuming that GMK don't do PBT? ANSI is fine, I'll just use a different board :)

Right, GMK only works in ABS. Using ABS key mix was not received well as a possible solution previously.

Ivan, for v4 would there be a option of blanks or simply US legends (as in like only 'abc's and no special prints like russian or desko, someone teach me what the correct term to use please!) only? Or would there only be like thai, arabic etc?
