I have asked him what the model number is as its not quite the same as mine.
However there are a few versions of this board.

Yours is p/n 79F0167.  No model number is printed on the label but it is called as "5576-A01" with  buckling spring switches over membrane.

The one on eBay is 5576-B01, conductive rubber over membrane. made by Mitsuimi.  Quality of plastic is rather bad and easy to get yellowed.

For you guys who use Japanese keyboards...is the really small space bar a problem? Even on the standard size spacebar, I hit the very end of it. Make it any shorter and I'd be uncomfortable in reaching it. Of course, I keep my hands far apart to begin with (in an ergonomic position) so it may be just me.

If you are on the home row. As in index on right hand on the J you should have no problem unless you have a very short thumb. I dont have to adapt at all to reach it.

The tiny BS is an issue for me so I use the key to the left of the space bar with my left thumb. I would not use a Jap layout all day.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, that is true. Too bad I'm used to hitting the spacebar with my left thumb instead of the right thumb.

I don't have a problem with the smaller space bar. I usually hit it around the V and B key with my left thumb. My only issue with Japanese layout is the placement of backslash/pipe next to right Shift instead of left Shift (UK layout). I don't mind the smaller Backspace either.

Yeah, it's not the spacebar that's usually the problem.  For me it's that the " gets transferred under the 2 key and lots of punctuation keys get shifted around in particular modes.  If you're typing in Japanese you almost never use space, so that's why the spacebar isn't that important.

If it has domes, I can find the strength to throw it away. If it were mechanical, it would be harder, though. I would keep it in case I needed the parts for something.

It has those rubber sleeves.

Edit: That page seems to be a mod where someone converts the sleeves to springs. Might work with M4s (?) as well.
