[WTS] IBM 4704 Model F 107 key keyboards
« on: Tue, 11 March 2014, 22:52:22 »
All gone, thanks guys!

More
I somehow had the good fortune of getting a whole bunch of the big IBM 4704 keyboards from a nearby e-cycler. I have absolutely no idea where they came from, all they could tell me was that they picked them up through one of their local e-waste collection events. So there's pretty much no chance of me getting any more.

They're all in pretty good shape. They're dirty, which is no surprise. Expect there to be scratches and marks on the paint. All the keycaps are intact. Not all of the two-piece relegendables have their top pieces, however most do. The vast majority of them are missing their feet. All of the ones left are missing their feet. I obviously have no way of testing them for function.

I have 16 to sell now. There's one missing some caps that I'll put up later, I just want to get through all the good ones first. Given the rarity of these I'd like to ask $150 shipped CONUS for each. International is fine, we can work out shipping depending on where exactly you're located. Keep in mind that shipping costs are going to be very high because the keyboard itself weighs about 10 pounds.

If there is a lot of interest I may limit them to one per person so that as many people as possible can have a chance at getting one. I'm not really sure what to expect.

With regards to the feet, I'm not sure what the 62 key kishsaver feet look like but these are just two plain rubber feet:

wow, you must have done a lot of sniping on ebay to get so many

Added a Model F. It also just occurred to me that you can remove stabilizer inserts, so I took one from the donor board and put it in the gray label which was lacking a numpad enter stabilizer.

The Northgate cable is not a male-male-PS/2 cable.

I described how to make a clean simple PS/2 installation in reply #157 of the Blue Alps Tour thread.

http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=49604.msg1262678#msg1262678

Otherwise, you need an original mini-DIN6-to-AT cable and a separate AT-to-PS/2 adapter.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

Thanks for clearing that up! I'll get that taken care of sometime this week. For now I have updated the OP with that info.

Remember those M13 pictures you did?

If you did a similar-quality one of the 107, I would much appreciate it. Need it for my desktop backgrounds folder.

Anyway: paid. Can't wait! This is the KB I want more than any other (that has yet been made).
---
edit:
These appear to use generation 1 or 2 (of 4 I know of) of IBM relegendable. They dont' always stick on the caps very well.

The only other source I know of for these is fentek
http://www.fentek-ind.com/keys.htm

The fentek (appear to be gen 4) ones are super expensive, though.

Will do. Thanks for the info on the relegendables. How are you able to tell what generation they are? I noticed that some of the boards seem to have a square-ish piece under the relegendable and some of them just look like the bottom part of a Model M two-piece cap. Is that it?

Edit: For anyone on the fence, there are about 5 keyboards that are unaccounted for thus far.

Ha, I sure hope I find some.

This e-cycler takes in stuff from all over the state and they're pretty good about hanging on to keyboards for me, so I suppose it's not too far fetched that I might eventually run into some more of these or some of the smaller models. One can only hope.

The "generation name" 1-4 is just a conjecture based on mould marks and plastic composition. I have reason to believe they are in the proper order but no hard data. I guess I'll have to actually take pictures and document this now.

So, these were meant to go on over a the bottom half of a normal IBM 2-piece, but for some reason some of the bottom halves are a little different. I suspect IBM did this to get the paper to stick on a bit better, but that's just a wild guess. I have not seen this "new" bottom half on any other IBM KB than under some relegendables. I guess I'll have to document that as well. I didn't think people would be ineterested.

Oh yeah, I would be interested in seeing the differences. I was looking at all the boards yesterday and trying to make a connection between the date and the shape of the bottom cap piece, but I've got a 1985 and a 1989 with the same style of cap and then a 1987 with a different one

A couple buyers backed out so I have 2 left except for one with some issues which I will list after these 2 go. I think everyone has had a fair chance at this point so if anyone wants a second then let me know.

If we had something arranged already or are working something out then I still have your keyboard--it isn't being sold to someone else.

Mine came today and I am very happy! I was pleasantly surprised to find that mine had F1-12 printed on the side of the top row. Now I won't have to buy the function keys from Unicomp like I thought I was going to have to do (and they're even one-piece caps, too)!

Thanks, ComradeSniper!

Now, to wait until someone finds a bunch of 77 key keyboards! :P
