Hi!

Similarly to the starcraft group, i wanted to make one for dota as well.
If anyone is willing to play, we can form a party and hit the MM

Might want to include MMRs in the post. My team rating is sitting around 3.2k, located in NA. Happy to play with people around the same skill level that have a mic.

I love Dota. It's what has killed my EVE Online career. I've only played like 100 games as well, but I'm getting there.

Haven't played any ranked matches yet so I have no idea of my MMR.

We should totally form a group on steam as well so we can know who is who and not block people who we don't recognise

Well personally I wouldn't put much stock in the solo MMR since DOTA is a team game and we've all had absolutely positive + flawless experiences with pubs.
Honestly I feel having a solo MMR in a team game is absolutely senseless.

Don't worry. MMR doesn't say ****, be it solo or team MMR. Dendi said in his stream chat it's based on such bad calculations and average numbers, like GPM and XPM, imagine you're a support in all your calibration games.
It's just terrible. The really high peaking players sure are good, but otherwise, the MMR number is inaccurate. I have two accounts with very seperate MMRs, and i don't troll on either of them. I play serious and to have two so different numbers doesn't feel right.
You can notice by the way a player moves, positions himself and tons of other stuff how good he is. Not by MMR.
So don't worry about it, just play the game:)

I have 3 steam accounts, 1 of them isn't ranked, the one I play the most on is 4.2k, the one I play 2nd most on is 4.1k.

I play fairly different heroes depending on the account, so I'd say the system is decently accurate.

That has happened already. Some people posted on reddit their calibration matches, how many they won and how many they lost, what heroes they played, their XPMs and GPMs, etc..
The people that played mostly supports in their calibration matches and went on a losing streak so they had a bad XP and GPM reported that their MMR was ranked lower than expected. Those people all had more than one account with a different MMR.
I don't know, I know many people that have a decent MMR but are bad, and many people that are decent but have a bad MMR. It's a bit harsh to say it's very inaccurate, but the system definitely dissapoints at times.

Yeah. Might also depend on what stacks you played with before, when the MMR was still hidden. There are many factors, I guess.
Still, I think that it's dumb to just judge by MMR, you can say how good a player is once you get a chance to play with him and observe his actions/movements.

Also, **** ranked everything. Even unranked captains mode is full of people who take video games too seriously.

I wan to give dota 2 a try but I feel so lost. I tried playing the hero 'lich' and I felt dazed and confused as soon as the game started.

Yeah the game has a pretty high learning curve. People also to yell at others for doing something bad/wrong. Combine those two and it's pretty intimidating for new players.

I was told lich is a good character for beginners. So that's what I'll be using at first. Other than that I feel pretty clue less.
