goddamnit. as if i wasn't already broke enough with all the goddamned lego coming out this summer...

+1.

I need to sell more stuff, but this is a fantastic deal for all that's included.

Just out of curiousity, I noticed some of the pics showed a dedicated number pad unit.  Is that going to be offered as well, or just the two different keyboards?

There's another group buy by Elton for that Butterfly Pad a long time ago. I wish Duck could do another round though.

Butterfly matches the case for the eagle/viper?

I've registered my interest in an Eagle, figuring that by the time this group by actually happens I'll be settled in with my new job and able to afford it :D

Both of these boards look great, and the price is actually pretty awesome, even after import costs, considering what I've heard about the quality of Duck boards. I love the look of the Viper... but I have no caps to fit it and about six sets for the more standard Eagle.

Are there any details on the lighting options? Do both models have the down-angled LEDs at the edges / somewhere on the PCB to add these while building? Do we know what kind of LED modes there are for the top mounted LEDs?

Also, where's that blue on beige dye-sub set from? The only sets I've seen like that were winkeyless.

Don't let this deter you!
The TaiHao Groupbuy has cheap Tsangan sets and base sets and they all look really nice.

The issue isn't that I won't be able to get caps for a Viper, it's that I'll be sad that I can't use the caps I have and like. I like the look of the Eagle anyway, though, so we're good :)

That's why you should *always* get a tsangan set when you participate a groupbuy.

I don't think so. Those side windows are not included in any previous Duck groupbuy.

I considered it a while back, but decided it would be cheaper and less frustrating to stick with one layout for everything MX. If the price I pay for that decision is having my choice of two amazing looking boards reduced to one amazing looking board... I can live with that :D

ALWAYS buy a Tsangan even if you don't need it now.  But tomorrow, when you fork out that money for a Korean Keyboard - then find out you need those specific extra keys that only a Tsangan could provide.........

Then you're right to tie a rope around the nearest roof beam to hang yourself because you had the opportunity and you let it pass, which here on Geekhack is totally unforgivable  :'( .

So why would you want to use a double sided tape to attach these pieces onto your keyboard?  Weird what some people would like to see on their keyboards these days.......

I know nothing other than that 7xxx is better than 6xxx.
Sadly, this is not the case.

from wikipedia (still learning this blank board, so copypasta is faster)
6000 series are alloyed with magnesium and silicon, are easy to machine, and can be precipitation hardened, but not to the high strengths that 2000 and 7000 can reach.
7000 series are alloyed with zinc, and can be precipitation hardened to the highest strengths of any aluminium alloy.

7000 is just harder and more brittle IF it's hardened.

6061 and 7075 are common.

6061 density of 2.7 g/cm^3, yields at 240 MPa minimum (for T6 )
7075 density of 2.81 g/cm^3, yields at 430 MPa minimum (for T6 ) and is significantly more expensive to machine. un-heat treated 7075 is only 275 MPa max though.

So if I understand this correctly, the main difference between soft anodized 6061 and hard anodized 7075 is just the hardness?

so anodyzation just increases the thickness of the Aluminium dioxide outer layer. It's a hard ceramic which helps protect the metal underneath (if only rust was less brittle :( ). Hard vs. soft anodyzed are just qualitative terms and don't really mean anything quantitative here.

But they are very different. Hardness, yield strength, ultimate strength, composition, they will likely have different corrosion resistance, but I didn't get far enough to take a class on corrosion.

With this amount of interests, it'll take them longer to produce. I'd say maybe end of July to August..

The only glue I know of that won't eat Acrylic or affect Aluminum, is urethane glue.  But once it's applied you can't remove it once it sets within 24 hours.

More than likely they'll be programmable with the same GUI tools and firmware that Duck's other boards use.

Very cool stuff. Will resistors (and controller) be pre-soldered or no? And if so, you need a different resistor for different colors of leds, correct?

Can anyone give me a (relatively) detailed description on the steps I need to take to assemble this board (or the lightsaver V2), or point me to a guide? I'm interested in learning how to build my own Korean custom! Would I need any aftermarket equipment (screwdriver, soldering iron, etc.)? I'm assuming that the diodes are presoldered.
