Some decisions were made in the base set to decrease the cost as much as possible without cutting anything 'important'. Dedicated GB keys were cut and those legends moved to side pad print. There are blanks for Windows so there is no arguments about which logo style it should be. Also it may be appreciated for OSX and nix user. If you like Windows 8 logo you can get colorpack. Likewise the windowed lock keys were not done as you need even number of each of them to fit in the 250 MOQ and it raise the price.
Color pack F J have bars for something different. It's something new GMK just set up so I thought we could try them. F'n'A... I thought we should have both for the true old school flavor, though obviously only A keys would have been a lot cheaper.
GMK owns the tooling that was originally Cherry which they picked up in 2010 when Cherry discontinued doubleshots as a production option, so everything about the keys will be identical to the original. Same Cherry profile thick doubleshots with the classic legends selected from a few layout variants. Colors will also be as close to possible as the original vintage sets.

For those that already have Dolch the add ons can offer quite a bit of flexibility. I also think the color pack will look pretty cool with Skidata sets and an easy way to ISO>ANSI convert. For the non qwerty/matrix set, we have an inexpensive blank pack.

Yes selection of A profile is pretty much limited to 1, 1.5 and 2. I don't think anything else was made in that. While the option for new legends may be coming soonish... I don't think they are eager to do new key molds.

Haven't you seen the Dolch Color Pack yet? I prefer the current setup because you can have a choice of either worshiping Gatesy's Monstrosity or doing without it.

Makes sense. Gives the windows 8 haters what they want, and those who want windows 8 for aesthetic reasons will already be willing to get the colour pack anyway

Modern sets use double E and double B instead which is what BASE configuration. F is taller than todays common function row, and A has a more steep inwards drop instead of the flatter B profile that is common on the bottom rows of more modern sets. F and A was more common on original 1000 series production and some other models in the 1985-1989 era. Later the F row was dropped to double E, then A row was dropped for most part with introduction of Windows keys and 1.25 modifiers size.
1.5 D row key in color pack is delete key, for hhkb style layout.

Another thing of note is that putting on GMK made key-sets is a dream because it goes on any Cherry made switch that was ever made so easily. It's not tight or loose by any means compared to a whole lot of pain putting on SP made key caps.

Speaking only from experience in buying heaps of SP key-sets whether they be DCS, SA or DSA you will encounter some difficulties in placing them and removing them from any keyboard.

With anything GMK made it's just so simple to remove any key-set from your keyboard but in all actuality, why would you ever consider removing such perfection away from your keyboard?

It's pretty much for the aesthetics. Yes general consensus is that pbt > abs but this is to replicate the original dolch set as far as possible. Meaning doubleshot legends which can only be done on abs. (Can be done on pbt too but only a certain amount of people have the means of doing so.) these are thick abs caps in cherry profile too. So basically everything thick keycap will apply to them, pbt or not.

Reason why everyone wants one is cause this is a very good replica. It's not just keycaps in dolch colors. Heck even the original dolch might have even used these if they were still being made. And these were made by the toolings used by cherry to make the original dolch too. I mean, if you don't care for those and just like it for the aesthetics, I'd say that this is already a good enough reason to get it

If you like the vortex, by all means go for it. But just wanna give you a heads up that if you miss this, there's probably no coming back. Whereas the vortex ones will be on sale for quite some time. And if along the way, if you realize why these were so highly sought after, the chance would've been over. There's a reason why people are going crazy over this gb lol

I'll have to disagree here, the tightest caps I ever had were the GMK purple mods on cherry mx clear stems.

It looks like they'll be shipped from the US:

"Shipping will be from USA to worldwide. If they were shipped directly from EU I would be required to collect VAT. For the most part due to the way I declare them import fees should be minimal if any... it's cheaper for you. I could send all the sets to one person for reshipment... but it's certainly guaranteed to get hit by import fees on dozens of sets instead of an individual order."

What size the spacebar???

ie: Row 2 backspace (1.5u) Tab (1.5u)
Row 3 Capslock (1.75u) Return (2.25u)
Row 4 Shift (2.25u and 1.75u)

really appreciate you taking the time to write this post. i actually was looking into an imsto set, which along with thick Cherry/BSP seem to be the most highly regarded PBT sets on the market (better rated than the doubleshot Vortex and any Signatures Plastic sets). not that it matters either way, just gonna save up a little more for this Dolch set

BLANK ALPHA set will cover all 1x1 key in the main typing block for ANSI, ISO or Brazil layout... it's short E row key for JIS.
MINILA spacebar... it should fit as far as I know unless Minila has something stupid non standard stem spacings? Does a stabilized shift key fit on there? If so we are good.

What makes this set better??? QUALITY!
