Stabilizers: Costar vs Cherry

Hello all, wanted to share my recent (very recent) change of heart with regards to stabilizers.

So, we have Costar Stabs and Cherry Stabs (Not My Pictures):

Generally speaking, Cherry stabs are mushy in feeling and Costar stabs are rattly and noisy.  For the longest time I prefered Cherry stabs simply because of the noise.  Hitting a rattly spacebar is just an absolute disgust.  But then I bought some Silicone Grease and lubed my Costar stabs.  Especially on a black stem switch, it's now buttery smooth and silent.

I agree with photekq, clipped Cherry stabilizers are my favorite. The convenience of Cherry with the nice crisp feeling of costar. And no rattling.

Is there a tutorial thread out there somewhere that explains what/how this is? I've never heard of lubing and clipping Cherry stabs, but this is very relevant to my interests.

You basically take apart the stabilisers, then clip off the two bendy legs on the stems of the stabilisers. Then put it back together. For lubing.. Lube the sides of the stem with thick grease such as GPL205, and lube where the wire touches the housing.

You can't get to the Cherry stabs on plate mounted boards can you? Not easily anyways? It would require desoldering?

Yeah, desoldering required unfortunately. It's worth it for that mod though. It makes them feel so much more crisp.

I prefer Cherry stabilizers. But, I have been using red o-rings and a bit of waffle foam tucked under the space-bar to diminish the excessive clacking.

I prefer the Cherry one because of how easy it is to remove and clean caps. Never even took the rattle into consideration but now Im convinced what I prefer

I prefer costar, but I have never tried any clipped cherry stabs.

In my experience, Costar has felt more crisp than cherry but in practice, the differences are not dramatic enough for me to have a preference.

Cherry is fine on linear switches, theres no tacticality for them to numb out. I wouldn't use anything but costar on switches with any sort of tactical switches though.
