Korean keycaps?
« on: Mon, 21 July 2014, 01:35:35 »
So, looking at a layout for a keyboard and remembering it isn't the easiest thing for me to do. I would like to know where to get keycaps that only show Korean characters. This means no English, just Korean. I'm learning Korean and it's easier for me to look at the keyboard and remember the layout.

I am in IL, USA.

I have a Quickfire Rapid keyboard with CHERRY MX reds.

Sorry if this has already been posted.

I've never seen hangul only keycaps before, either online or in person.

I knew many students from korea and their laptops from Korea always had both English and Hangul on the same keycaps. (I didn't see any when I visited Korea either).

It might be possible to get them custom printed but I doubt it is worth the cost.

If English+Hangul is fine I know imsto.cn has Thick PBTs in Blue and WASD has custom ABS keys.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

Edit: Maybe you could get blanks and attach hangul keycap stickers to the keys. Not the most elegant solution, but works until you learn to touch type.

I am fine with getting English and Hangul on the same keyboard.
I don't have the most money, so if it isn't worth the cost, I'd rather just get Hangul+English.

The WASD keycaps are cheaper ($50ish)!

http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/keycap-set.html

You can select hangul under Select Layout.

IMSTOs keycaps are thicker and the material is less prone to shining, but significantly more expensive ($100ish)

http://imsto.cn/index.php?route=product/product&path=62&product_id=62

There might be others but thats all I can recall atm.

EDIT: You can probably just order a set of the alphanumerics since the modifier keys should be the same. Saves u like 20 bucks, but you cant customize the color much.

http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/keycap-mod-packs.html

$30 + a couple dollars shipping & tax

If you are an ultra-tight budget, you can order some Korean-letter stickers for your keyboard, such as these: http://www.amazon.com/Keyboard-Stickers-Transparent-Background-Lettering/dp/B002DQJ7N0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1405931029&sr=8-3&keywords=korean+stickers

They're, of course, stickers... so they can fall off really easily, which is their down point. But they are cheap.

Or you can order something called "Speed skins", which is a kind of cover that you can put over your keyboard, that will have Korean letters on the cover, which you can then use to type: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=speedskins%20korean

Never owned them so I can't speak for them. But they seem pretty useful.

Yeah keycaps aren't usually cheap (good ones at least).  I think with english+hangul keycaps they're mostly (if not all) pbt.  You might be able to find them on classifieds for a little cheaper.  I'd go for a nice two-tone set personally :p.

If you are on a very very tight budget and just really want one for practicing/learning you could get those korean stickers and super glue them to a crappy rubber dome keyboard

Doing the alpha-only keyset from WASD is the cheapest way to get Korean.

I have a spare set of keys off my MStone Groove87 which had korean + english keys by default. PM'd.
I typed this post on my Slanck. I also developed a stronger, cleaner, easier handwiring method.

Ohh my. That brought back memories from grade school. IMHO, those covers are absolutely horrible to type on.

I asked the same question before, got pretty much the same answers.
So then I made a key layout for WASD keyboards for exactly this, everything in korean, no english and even the modifier keys has korean text

My layout file is for ISO keyboard but it would be easy to make it fit ANSI

its possible to change font and colors on the letters, PM me if you are interested in the layout file

Try to contact with them. You could have one of them, if you are lucky.
And, I do not know clearly whether ALL keys are compatible with yours or not.
Because, nowdays we have thousands of layouts and idiot-mutations.
(But, only for the Hangul/English area, I'm pretty sure, everythings will be fine).
Finally, there should be some more shops out there, I am not that much interested in there.

Regards
