OK

I have started a Fantasy League on the NFL.com website. I'm not sure quite how well this is going to work, because you may or may not have to download an app in order to get the "Draft Kit" which will give you ratings and injury reports and watnot. It's only £2.99 (no idea in USD) but I've got it as I'm a total rookie at these things. There is a FREE official NFL app which I'm just going to test now...

The league is called "Geekhack Official". We have 12 slots as there hasn't been much interest yet, but I'm sure as we get closer to football more people will look to join (hopefully).

The League ID is 2390379 and the password is geefCCplz

I'm in, can you link the league? I can't find it.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Sure, hopefully this works (as work has blocked the fantasy football site)

http://fantasy.nfl.com/registration/privateleaguejoincreateteam?leagueId=2390379&leaguePassword=geefCCplz&campaign=Fantasy_Email_Custom_Invite_App

If it doesn't work, I will have to put it on tonight when I'm at home. Or someone else can post the invite link in here instead.

Yeah. C'mon geeks, nerds, dweebs of all kinds. Fantasy football is especially fun with groups of like-minded individuals... plus you get to talk mad **** to each other and it be all fun afterwards. Not much effort required to play in a relaxed league where money isn't on the line, either.

So guys, the football season is almost upon us (yes I know it's over 40 days, but I'm excited) and I was thinking of starting a fantasy league.

Now I've never done any fantasy football before, and I was thinking of starting one on the NFL site, but I'm sure at least one of you guys will know a better site than that, with other features and stuff, but I just want to get a GeekHack league started.

So, anyone interested?

Aren't you English?  Shouldn't you be doing a fantasy league for the other kind of football?  What is this?
Wish I had some gif or quote for this space, but I got nothing

I'm English and I started the league.

I've been following the NFL for about six years, and I have also been a soccer fan for longer than that.

The World Cup probably had the opposite effect on me that it did in the USA. I have been kinda disenchanted with soccer for ages, and watching the South American teams play just made me realise how much I actually dislike the sport. How I spent 90% of my time saying how the referees are terrible and how the players are all idiots and throw themselves on the floor all the time.

I have also wanted to get into fantasy football for a few years, and finally with this lovely community, I thought it would be a good idea to finally get into one :)

So here we are. Soccer sucks. Football rules.

I apologize in advance for the off topic comment but I can't hold myself back.

Whenever I hear anyone talking about Fantasy (insert any sport here) it reminds me of a meme from Farceboob a while back that said "Fantasy Football, face it, its just D&D for jocks."

Thanks for the explanation.  As much as I enjoyed the World Cup, that sort of pettiness was always in the back of my mind.  Just wait until you discover how great hockey is!

I find it amusing that (as of two days ago) 2/3 of the people in this league aren't even from the US.  :P  Strongly considering it myself, though.   :thumb:

Come on guys! We need more people! Only got four right now, I think we need a minimum of 8 but we have 12 total slots.

Don't be afraid if you have never done this before, neither have I! I might have to transfer ownership of the League over to someone else because I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing and the settings are all reeeeeeally daunting.

If there's still room I'll sign up sometime this week  :D League with the guys at work seems to be uncertain as to whether it's happening or not so I'll need one to play in for fun either way!

I know it's all for fun and the league already has some people in it, but thoughts on prizes? Might drum up interest. I just had a fun GH-themed idea: 1 artisan key buy-in, payouts to top 3.

Either way I'm in for sure!

Of course there is room! There are some great keyboard themed names in there so you will have to come up with something ;)

As for prizes, I was thinking the same thing. I was wondering what I, as the league owner, could provide, but I haven't got much in the way of anything anyone would like really :( We could always ask for fees and then the top 3 get a share, but that may deter people too.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

So I see! We have six now; myself (Katushkin's Keycool Kats (yes it spells KKK, oops)), Hoff (Hoff Measures), absyrd (Absyrd's ALPSholes), boost (MOAR BOOST), bueller (West Balga Wagtails?), and one more who I can't work out who (HHKBrowns)

We have space for 12, so we need a minumum of 2 more.

I have no idea when the draft will be, I need to sit down at my PC in the next couple of weeks and work out how to/when to start it.

And the OP has been updated.

Not sure if I want to let a LoL player in... ;)

But you totally should! You would learn a lot about it, and I'm pretty sure you would be able to put together a decent team if you just go off ratings, and it's a pretty fair drafting system. And you would have fun with the trash talking before the games im sure :)

Yeeeee!!  Welcome aboard!  If you're worried about not knowing about the NFL, don't worry.  Do you know the sport at least?  If you know the sport you should still have fun.  :D  The fantasy experience and the league as a whole are possibly confusing, but you'll learn.  :P

All I know is that x amount of guys is running into opposing teams x amount of guys and then the referee blows the wistle and throws some towels around and they start over. Sometimes they even kick the ball but thats a rarety.
